Week 5 is now in the books. With more injuries occurring, rookies breaking out, and players coming out of their bye week, here is a look at my top waiver wire adds for Week 6.

Quarterback

Jameis Winston TB (20%): Listed as a waiver pick up for Week 5, Winston is still not owned in many fantasy leagues. With the Bucs coming out of their bye week, Jameis Winston is locked in as the starting quarterback.  Moving forward, Winston should be able to produce for a loaded Buccaneers offense.

Mitchell Trubisky CHI (24%): During the Bears Week 4 game against the Buccaneers, Trubisky looked like a true #1 quarterback. He threw for 356 yards and 6 touchdowns with 0 interceptions. After their bye week, the Bears will now take on the Miami Dolphins. Trubisky has a nice matchup and a chance for another impressive stat-line.

Running Back

week-6-waiver-wire

Wendell Smallwood PHI (8%) Jay Ajayi will unfortunately miss the remainder of the 2018 season after being placed on IR with a torn ACL. In Week 5, he had a small sample size but showed his ability to produce. He carried the ball just 3 times for 27 yards while also catching 3 of 4 targets for an additional 44 yards and a reception touchdown. Smallwood was also able to successfully convert a 2 point conversion. Smallwood made the list of waiver adds for Week 4 when he was only 2% owned. Unless the Eagles make a big move to trade for a running back, all signs point to Smallwood becoming the Eagles #1 running back.

Alfred Blue HOU (14%): With Lamar Miller under-performing this season and seeing all the action on the bench in Week 5, Alfred Blue took on the lead back role. Although his rushing stats were not impressive (46 yards on 20 carries), he showed his receiving skills when he caught all of his 8 targets for 73 yards. It looks like Alfred Blue may have taken the lead back role moving forward with the Texans. I still believe when D’Onta Foreman (20%) is healthy and ready to return from the PUP list he will take over as the Texans early down running back. In the meantime, though, Alfred Blue could be a formidable option to get fantasy teams through bye weeks and injuries.

Wide Receiver

week-6-waiver-wire

Tre’Quan Smith NO (2%): Smith showed great ability on Monday Night Football, making an incredible catch for his first reception of the night with a sideline grab that looked impossible for him to secure. He then topped that off, catching Drew Brees’ record setting career passing yards mark pass, with a touchdown on a 62 yard catch and run. Even with a small sample size in the first 4 weeks, Smith has been making head coach, Sean Payton, find new ways to get the rookie receiver more involved. In a great offense with a future hall-of-fame quarterback, Smith is likely to continue contributing through the rest of the season.

Mohamed Sanu ATL (32%): Working with Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley, you would think Sanu’s production would be limited, but he has made the most out of his targets this year. Against the Steelers in Week 5, Sanu caught 4 passes for 73 yards and broke a big touchdown, going for 43 yards. He had another good game in Week 4, when he had 6 catches for 111 yards. With Julio Jones demanding the defense’s top defenders to cover him and Calvin Ridley catching most of the teams touchdowns, Sanu has been a forgotten asset in a potent Falcons offense.

Robby Anderson NYJ (35%): Anderson is a tough player to trust as he mostly relies on catching deep touchdowns to produce in fantasy. This was the case in Week 5, when Anderson caught 3 passes for 123 yards and two deep touchdowns. One was from 76 yards and the other from 35 yards. With Quincy Enunwa demanding more coverage, Anderson will have more opportunities to catch long balls from Sam Darnold. He could definitely be worth an add for Week 6.

Tight End

week-6-waiver-wire

Cameron Brate TB (31%): Brate, like Winston, was listed as a waiver wire add for Week 5. With the bye week over and O.J Howard still out with a knee sprain, Brate is locked in as the team’s top tight end. With multiple injuries at the tight end position, Brate should prove to be a worthwhile waiver wire pickup and should see multiple goal line looks.

Niles Paul JAX (0%): With another tight end injury this week, Austin Seferian-Jenkins is headed to IR. Niles Paul did a great job filling in, catching 7 of 9 passes for 65 yards. It’s seeming like a starting tight end is going down once a week. Paul could be a good waiver wire add for fantasy teams struggling at the position.
