The biggest week in college football so far is officially over. When it comes to the Kentucky-Georgia game, thank god it’s over. Georgia handled the Wildcats extremely well, and put them down 34-17. We learned some new things from each team, and saw some reoccurring themes from each team. It’s clear to see who is the better team between the two, but the gap isn’t as far as it seems. I still feel with the right circumstances, Kentucky can beat Georgia. However, those are just hypothetical thoughts and we won’t get into that.

What We Learned-Georgia

In my preview article about this game, I stated that to have any chance, Kentucky needed to stop the running game of Georgia. That, in fact, did not happen. The two-headed dragon in the backfield in D’Andre Swift and Elijah Holyfield combined for 271 yards and three touchdowns. Jake Fromm’s stats were under par, but that could’ve been due to the fact that they ran the ball 50 times. He threw for 113 yards with a touchdown on 14/20 passing. The running game is no doubt what killed the Kentucky Wildcats. As I said in my last article, if they could’ve made Jake Fromm beat them instead, it would’ve been a lot closer there at the end.

What We Learned-Kentucky

We learned that Terry Wilson is not the problem with this offense. Sure, Terry has had a few tough games here and there, but many UK fans don’t take into consideration that he came from playing at a JUCO college last year, to playing in the best conference in football this year. That isn’t an easy transition to make in any shape, form, or fashion. Wilson has also thrown for a very efficient 45/60 the last two games. The play calling is terrible, and the coaching staff is not letting Terry Wilson be aggressive. This results in teams stacking the box against Benny Snell, and that’s why he’s been held in check over the last few weeks.

What’s Next?

For Georgia, they will go on to play Alabama in the SEC championship, where they’ll need a win to get in the playoff. They’re most likely going to win the rest of their regular season games. Kentucky is out of playoff contention completely unless Alabama and Georgia lose the rest of their games. However, they still have three extremely winnable games left where they can complete a 10-win season for the first time in my life time. They’re also looking to win out those three games to possibly get a very respectable bowl game.
