Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, won two awards on Wednesday. Mahomes won the MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards which were awarded by the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA.)

The awards are the first in Mahomes’ young career. This season saw the Chiefs quarterback throw for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in his first season as the Chiefs’ starting QB.

Patrick is the favorite to land the Associated Press MVP, which will be awarded the night before Super Bowl LIII.

However, Mahomes still has an almighty task ahead of him – try to lead his team to the Super Bowl. Mahomes will go toe-to-toe with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.

New England defeated Kansas City back in October in a thrilling 43-40 clash at Foxborough. However, the Chiefs will have home field advantage for this match.

If the game back in October is anything to go by, this could be another heart stopping game of football. On the other hand, an arctic blast is expected to settle over Kansas City for the game. Assuming this happens, it could be a low scoring affair.

Pressure On Mahomes

Sunday will be Kansas City’s first AFC Championship appearance since 1993. With the game being played at Arrowhead Stadium, there will be big expectations on Sunday.

Mahomes has played in some tough, high pressure games this season, Foxborough was one of them. However, the Chiefs have never played in a game of this magnitude. It has been just over 4 years since New England last played at Arrowhead.

That night saw the Chiefs destroy the Patriots 41-14. Chiefs Kingdom also broke the Guinness World Record that night. Tom Brady was benched as well that game, which was on Monday Night Football.

Kansas City fans would love to see their new QB defeat the Patriots at Arrowhead, just like Alex Smith did 4 years ago.

Will Mahomes feel the pressure? The Chiefs haven’t been to a Super Bowl since the 1969/70 season, and as I mentioned earlier, it is their first AFC Championship game since 1993.

If anyone can handle this pressure, it is Patrick Mahomes.
