It’s been just about two days since the Dolphins canned Adam Gase and begun their search for their next head coach. What felt at times like an airing of grievances by owner Stephen Ross when he gave his press conference on Monday, Chris Grier was named the face that runs the place and will be in charge of finding the next coach. 8 teams in total are searching for new coaches and as you’ve seen on the line the past few days, every single person in the world regardless of coaching ability or not is a possible candidate for every job out there. This is not a list of the guys I think could be or are the best guys out there. This is a list of the five most interesting and candidates that make me laugh that possibly might be the Dolphins next head coach.

5. Dan Campbell

All the way back, in the long ago, in 2015 the Dolphins had Joe Philbin as their head coach. For the first four games, Miami struggled, as they often do and were as flat as the Earth in the mind of Kyrie Irving. The Dolphins fired Philbin and inserted TE coach and PC principle Dan Campbell who played the position in the NFL. Campbell was the perfect guy for that team for that exact moment because he brought a level of intensity and fun that was largely missing. Besides being a jacked up dude that you’d never want to mess with, Campbell had the players for the Dolphins playing inspiring football. They came out and beat the brakes off the Titans and Texans in his first two weeks. Practices even became more intense where Campbell had the players doing Oklahoma Drill after Oklahoma Drill. Actually, it was surprising that they never installed an Oklahoma Drill package. Campbell finished 5-7 and Gase was hired the next year. The thought was that Campbell was to inexperienced to be the head coach long term. Three years later and Campbell is being floated around as a head coaching candidate.

4. The Brothers Harbaugh

In 2011, the late Tony Sparano who revived the Wildcat, was the coach of the Dolphins. But that didn’t stop Stephen Ross to take a trip to Stanford to visit a fellow Michigan man in Jim Harbaugh to see if he wanted to be the next Dolphins head coach. Kind of a shitty move because it was a shitty move when they still had a coach going to work and trying to win for him. But, you don’t get to be a billionaire by being a nice, always generous guy. Cut throat tactics are part of the game. Harbaugh went to the 49ers and then to Michigan where he remains for now. It’s been reported that Ross has said he won’t pursue Harbaugh, but the Jets are looking to do just that. If the Jets offer him a major contract, which they’ll have too, does Ross try and be Lincoln Hawk and come Over the Top?

As of two months ago, brother John Harbaugh was all but finished in Baltimore. Reports were that the Ravens and him pretty much agreed to part ways after the season. But then Lamar Jackson got put in the lineup for Flacco and the Ravens are now in the playoffs. So John Harbaugh isn’t going anywhere right? Hard to say because there has been a lot of reporting that John Harbaugh is still available via trade. Miami has been one of the teams reportedly interested in possibly doing that. I think that it be way dumb to trade picks for a coach, but it’s the Dolphins so it’s entirely possible.

3. Eric Sleeping With Bieniemy

Besides having one of the coolest sounding names that only got enhanced by Chris Berman, Eric Bieniemy is the only candidate on this list that has an interview with the Dolphins.

Bieniemy was an average at running back in the NFL, but managed to play 9 seasons. He’s been a running backs coach in the league and this year has been the offensive coordinator for the high flying Chiefs. It’s to tough make out how responsible Bieniemy is for the mega success of Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs offense. How much is Andy Reid over his shoulder with everything? Like Campbell, how NFL coach ready is Bieniemy? Can he develop an actual good coaching staff? It’s hard to say but I will say that I’m a sucker for guys that are on staffs that do well especially when he’s one of the main guys behind an offense that’s tearing the league apart. Bieniemy is one of the more intriguing coaches to me because I can’t guarantee that he’s not a heavy hand behind the offense that is one of the best in the league.

2. Rex Ryan

This one happened on around the end of the 4: O’Clock games on Sunday and it was interesting and funny to me based on the details of it. The details of it were that Rex Ryan was basically just telling the anyone who would listen that he wants to coach somewhere in South Florida. Doesn’t matter if it’s with the Dolphins, Hurricanes, Magic, Lightning, Rays whatever. Rex wants South Florida and that’s the way it’s going to be. Also, Rex has a whole staff in place and is just waiting for any organization in South Florida to give him the green light. I kind of hope Rex just shows up to the facility with his staff and just starts going to work without being hired. I’d like that.

1.Nick Saban

Every year there is speculation that Nick Saban will be leaving Alabama and every year it has been wrong. Eventually, there will be a day where he does and everyone will say “see, I told ya so.” This year is no different and one article from the Palm Beach Post a news outlet that says Real News Starts Here pondered if the devil incarnate would return to Miami if they brought him back. The answer is if Nick Saban ever came back to the NFL, something I don’t think he would ever do why oh why would he come back to this team that isn’t going anywhere any time soon? This rumor is the most outlandish of the five but there’s a real news article with his name attached to it, so I’m counting it.
