With the MLB Trade Deadline less than 24 hours away, teams will soon be pressing the panic button to make a move. New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz is on the market.

The Trade

He was acquired in a trade last offseason in a deal that sent him from the Seattle Mariners to New York. Along with second baseman Robinson Cano.

It hasn’t been a great season but Diaz by all means. His record so far this season is 1-6 with a 4.95 ERA. He has appeared in 44 games so far this season. Edwin Diaz has pitched in 40 innings and has given up 45 hits and 22 runs. He has also walked 13 batters and has struck out 61.

Mets closer Edwin Diaz has 23 saves in 27 save opportunities. He is only 25 years old. Teams like the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers desperately need help in the bullpen.

Possible trade to Boston

New York would want a player like Andrew Benintendi or Jackie Bradley Jr. in return along with either number one prospect first baseman/third baseman Triston Casas or number two prospect third baseman/first baseman Bobby Dalbec.

Benintendi’s batting average so far this season is .280 with ten home runs and 51 RBI’s. Along with nine stolen bases in 92 games. His on-base percentage is .357. He is 25 years old.

Bradley Jr. has played in 97 games so far this season, and his batting average is .231 with 11 home runs and 41 RBI’s, along with seven stolen bases. Jackie Bradley Jr.’s on-base percentage is .326. He is 29 years old.

I am sure there would maybe be one more player involved in the deal like either #3 prospect right-handed pitcher Bryan Mata or #7 prospect left-handed pitcher Jay Groome.

Possible Trade to Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a ton of depth on their roster. It probably wouldn’t hurt them to trade away outfielder Joc Pederson. He is 27 years old.

His batting average so far this season in 97 games is ..236 with 23 home runs and 50 RBI’s, along with one stolen base. Pederson’s on-base percentage is .329.

I am sure that #2 prospect right-handed pitcher Dustin May and #3 prospect catcher Keibert Ruiz would be a part of the trade as well.

Some other potential prospects I thought they could get maybe part ways with but they won’t is #7 prospect shortstop Jeter Downs, #8 prospect third baseman Kody Hoese. Also,#9 prospect second baseman Michael Busch, #12 prospect catcher Diego Cartaya, #20 prospect right-handed pitcher Jimmy Lewis, or #24 prospect third baseman/first baseman Cristian Santana.

New York has until Wednesday at 4 p.m. to get trades done. It sounds like they are going to find a suitor for him. If that’s the case, then Seth Lugo will be the new closer. Preparing for 2020 even though the Mets have a slim chance to make it to the playoffs this season as they sit with a 50-56 record currently and six games back of a wild card spot.
