This past Saturday we had UFC 239 and had plenty of “OH MY GOD!!!!!” knock outs. Luke Rockhold just got blasted by Jan Blachowicz. In the co-main event we saw Holly Holm’s head get kicked off by Amanda Nunes. But the knockout of the night I want to talk about is Jorge Masvidal’s flying knee that stiffened Ben Askren. Leading up to their fight, there was a lot of bad blood and trash talk. So you knew things would get ugly. 5 seconds into the fight, yes 5 seconds, Jorge Masvidal came sprinting across the cage jumping in the air to land a flying knee. Main reason Jorge Masvidal’s flying knee connected was the fact Ben Askren went for a double leg take down.

Jorge Masvidal’s flying knee still flying high

Now in the days that have past, everyone is still talking about Jorge Masvidal’s flying knee high light reel knockout. The thing that is getting to me are the “fans” that aren’t giving credit were credit is due. Some of the comments I’ve seen are “Oh, Jorge got lucky.” “That was such a fluke.”. The best one I’ve seen so far was “Ben Askren got his money and was told to take a dive.”. First off I want to make a comment about the last thought. I don’t care how much money you’re offering me. I’m not taking a dive, and letting a guy punch me twice in the face while I’m laying there defenseless. So just stop with that theory.

Before anyone says “Oh well you must be a Masvidal fan.” No I’m actually not. I like him as a fighter but I’m not buying PPV’s just because he’s on it. I like how he’s aggressive and how he’s a good striker. For people to say this was a fluke, then why were they practicing that exact move all through his camp? Even Ben Askren said today that to land something like that takes skill. Obviously Jorge Masvidal had the skill to land it. I also don’t think they should have a rematch. Just because fans didn’t get a 3 round fight is not a good reason to do the rematch. Ben Askren got caught. Simple as that. Now Masvidal deserves a title shot. He has back to back huge knockouts against top opponents.

So just stop with this “he was lucky nonsense”. Maybe, just maybe, a UFC fighter might have more moves then just a punch or a leg kick. This is your good friend Jimbo signing off until next time
