The Sunday night baseball contest between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox would be delayed for an hour and five minutes. The first pitch was not thrown until 8:15 p.m. New York scored seven runs in the first three innings all of off of David Price and the Yankees won 7-4.

The Yankees Sweep

Boston was swept in this series and their postseason chances might be finished now. The Red Sox’s record is now 59-55. They are 14.5 games back of the first place in the American League East. Boston is 6.5 games back of the Tampa Bay Rays for the second wild card spot in the American League.

The Boston Red Sox have lost eight straight games. Boston’s schedule will ease up for the next seven games. They will be home for a three-game set against the Kansas City Royals starting on Monday night. The Red Sox will also be home against the Los Angeles Angels for a four-game series beginning on Thursday night.

The tough opponents left for this team this season is the Cleveland Indians, the Philadelphia Phillies, the New York Yankees, the Minnesota Twins, the Tampa Bay Rays, and the San Francisco Giants.

They also play the Baltimore Orioles six more times this season.

As for the game itself, Aaron Judge hit a solo home run off of David Price in the first inning.

Yankees Players Stepping Up

New York scored six runs in the third inning. Gio Urshela hit a two-run homer, Cameron Maybin hit an RBI double. Mike Ford had an RBI single, and Mike Tauchman had a two-run single.

Boston wouldn’t go away as Christian Vazquez and J.D. Martinez hit back-to-back home runs off of J.A. Happ in the fifth inning.

Andrew Benintendi hit a two-run single in the sixth inning for the Boston Red Sox, and that is as close they would get.

J.A. Happ (9-6), the winning pitcher for the New York Yankees, he pitched 5.2 innings and gave up seven hits and four runs. Happ walked one batter and struck out two batters.

David Price (7-5), the losing pitcher for Boston, he pitched 2.2 innings and gave up nine hits and seven runs. Price walked two batters and struck out three.

Chad Green recorded his second save of the season for New York. He pitched one inning and walked one batter and struck out one.

The Yankees record so far this season is 72-39, and they are tied for the top spot in the American League at the moment with the Houston Astros.

New York will begin a three-game set on the road starting on Monday night against the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees and Red Sox are headed in different directions.
