Most of you already know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but you might not know why a sports blog is writing about it. Well, it’s simple… Breast Cancer is one of the deadliest cancers in the US. In 2019 it is projected that 268,600 cases of its kind will be recorded, while 41,760 will result in death (According to Very Well Health).

That might sound brash, but it’s a reality that so many, including many of you that are reading this, face every single day. It is important to know the impact of this disease and how it affects the ones we love. According to a poll ran in 2017, 54% of all families say they or someone in their immediate family has been diagnosed by cancer at some point. No, this does not necessarily mean breast cancer but the statistics tell the story, and you bet it hits home to a lot of readers.

Since 2009 the NFL has partnered with the American Cancer Society to shine some light and bring awareness to Breast Cancer. Over time we have seen players get behind this movement and donate portions of games checks or other amounts based on their performance or team performance. This in a sense has fueled the backing presented by the NFL and accounted for millions of dollars donated.

While the NFL has done a tremendous job of supporting the America Cancer Society, or the “Crucial Catch” campaign. They have also been placed under the microscope many times. In 2013, Darren Rovell tweeted that the NFL says it takes a 25 percent royalty from the wholesale price of pink products, which is half the price of retail, and then donates 90 percent of that royalty to ACS. Business Insider then broke down those numbers and figured for $100 spent, roughly $11.00 goes to ACS while the NFL keeps the rest.

Whatever your feeling is about the way the NFL handles their business, you have stumbled across this article by Belly Up Sports. At this point, you may be wondering who we are and why we are writing about this. So let me quickly tell you before you close the page. We here at Belly Up also decided we wanted to do all we can to raise awareness to not only Breast Cancer but all cancer. So for the entire month on October, we will be donating 50% of all out profits to the below designs in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Belly Up Sports (BCA Month Design) Powered by DSGNTree

Sure we may be small and don’t size up to the NFL, but we promise to honor our commitment and make our donation public when the month ends. On top of our donation, our partner at DSGNTree has committed to matching our donation when it is all said and done.

With all that being said I would like to issue a challenge to all the professional athletes, artists, or sports personalities out there! For every one of you that retweet this, I will personally buy and send you a t-shirt from the design, in hopes that we can make this donation something special.

Can’t financially support the cause? No problem! Just a simple retweet on Twitter or share on Facebook makes a world of difference. The more we get this message out, the greater impact we can have on the community and use what we’ve built to help people. So who’s with me?
