Even though Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has two years remaining on his contract, he wanted to receive an extension now rather than later. After dealing with tough negotiations with Owner Jerry Jones, Elliott signed a six-year contract extension worth $90 million, according to a source that told ESPN.

Fifty million dollars will be guaranteed in this contract, a source told ESPN’s Ed Warder.

This is good news for Dallas that they got this done now because the Cowboys will now have him for the entire season. Ezekiel Elliott did not take any hits during training camp. His body will be fresh for the Week 1 opener at home against the New York Giants this upcoming Sunday.

He was training at other places during his holdout. It isn’t like Elliott will be rusty heading into the season. He is one of the best running backs in the NFL. Having Ezekiel Elliott around will make this team one of the favorites to win Super Bowl LIV this upcoming season in Miami Gardens. He is 24 years old.

In 15 games played last season, Elliott rushed for 1,434 yards on 304 carries and six touchdowns. He also caught 77 passes for 564 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

In 40 games played in his career so far, Ezekiel Elliott has rushed for 4,048 yards on 868 carries and 28 touchdowns. He has also caught 135 passes for 1,199 yards receiving and six touchdowns.

Ezekiel Elliott was also suspended for six games in 2017. They missed him big time when he was suspended and Dallas missed the playoffs because of it. They have made it to the playoffs the last two-out-of-three seasons.

He is the third player to receive a contract extension for the Dallas Cowboys within the last few weeks. Linebacker Jaylon Smith and offensive lineman La’el Collins also received them as well

Dallas stills needs to pay quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Amari Cooper. Prescott could be paid by the end of the week. If no deal is done, they will probably wait until after the season is over. Cooper might be the last player the Cowboys sign to a contract extension.

With all of these contract extensions, it shows that they will be Super Bowl Contenders for a long time. Dallas has not won the Super Bowl since 1996.
