If you didn’t get a chance to watch yesterday’s games you missed some amazing basketball. Both teams brought energy and played hard until the last buzzer.
The Sparks and the Suns have seen each other three times this season, with the Sparks coming up on top two games to one. LA and Connecticut each finished the regular season with 15-2 home record.
Quarters 1 & 2 of the Sparks/Sun game
Alyssa Thomas got the Sun off to a great start scoring 13 points in the first quarter. Despite the Sparks having 6 first-quarter turnovers, they finish the quarter within seven. Jasmine Thomas sank a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give her team the seven-point advantage.
The second quarter saw a lot of back and forth buckets. Sparks are able to pull within two, lead by Nneka Ogwumike’s 9 points. Additional scoring from C. Ogwumike, Sydney Wiese, and Alana Beard helps LA outscore Connecticut 26 to 16. LA takes the lead at the two-minute mark and head into halftime up by three.
Quarters 3 & 4 of the Sparks/Sun game
The Connecticut Sun start the third quarter with three-pointers. Two from Shekinna Stricklen and one from Jasmine Thomas. Each team went on a double-digit run but the Sun held a one-point lead to end the third.
The Sun kept a lead throughout the fourth quarter, outscoring the Sparks 25-17. This game saw 11 lead changes and 5 ties. Nneka Ogwumike and Candace Parker each finished with double-doubles.
Alyssa Thomas played the full forty minutes and contributed 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Jonquel Jones and Courtney Williams each gave Connecticut 7 rebounds and double-digit scoring. Candace Parker led the Sparks in points with 24 on 10-14 shooting night.
