Mason Rudolph Quarterback Pittsburgh Steelers! Yes, I said it! With Ben Roethlisberger being sidelined for the rest of the season with an elbow injury, second-year quarterback Mason Rudolph is named the starter for the rest of the season for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He came in the game in the second half for Pittsburgh. Rudolph actually played well in relief. He completed 12-of-19 passes for 112 yards two touchdowns and one interception. Mason Rudolph also rushed for seven yards on one carry.

There are players and coaches inside the locker room that believe he will get the job done for the rest of the season. Even though the Steelers are off to an 0-2 start, they believe they can get in the win column for the first time season this Sunday afternoon on the road against the 2-0 San Francisco 49ers.

Rudolph was a third-round pick out of Oklahoma State University in the 2018 NFL Draft. His college teammate James Washington was drafted in the second round in the 2018 NFL Draft as well. Maybe they both can develop quality chemistry once again.

Moving Forward

Trading a 2020 first-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick is all you need to know in what Pittsburgh thinks of Mason Rudolph.

If Rudolph leads them to the postseason, how could the Pittsburgh Steelers possibly bring back Ben Roethlisberger even though he will have two years remaining on his contract?

Mason Rudolph Quarterback Pittsburg Steelers

Mason Rudolph, Quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers is 24 years old and a lot of people are hoping he is the future franchise quarterback for this football team. What happens to this franchise if Rudolph doesn’t play well? Will Pittsburgh regret trading away the first-round pick?

It is rare for the Steelers to be this bad. It seems like they won’t win many games this season, but they are going to play hard week in and week out.

The other receiving options he will have is JuJu Smith-Schuster, Dionate Johnson, and Vance McDonald. Pittsburgh should move on from Donte Moncrief because Moncrief was responsible for Rudolph’s lone interception last week.

Mason Rudolph will also have a solid offensive line, a solid backfield in James Conner, Jaylen Samuels, and Benny Snell Jr. As well as Ben Roethlisberger will be mentoring him.

Job Security

The backup quarterback now will be Devlin Hodges, while Paxton Lynch was signed to the Steelers practice squad. Hodges is 23 years old and went undrafted in 2019. Devlin Hodges played his college ball at Samford University. Lynch is 25 years old and was a first-round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2016. Paxton Lynch played in the preseason with the Seattle Seahawks and then Seattle got rid of him.

Mason Rudolph will also feel no pressure because both of those quarterbacks are not a threat to steal his job. It would have been interesting to see if he would have started if Joshua Dobbs was not traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.

It may seem like Rudolph is playing with house money but in reality, he needs to prove himself now. If Mason Rudolph doesn’t, they are going to face some problems in the long run whenever Ben Roethlisberger decides to retire, considering the fact that he is 37 years old. A lot of people might pick up Rudolph off the waiver wire in fantasy football.
