Former NBA and current Big3 big man Andre Emmett was shot and killed Monday morning in Dallas Texas. KLBK, a television station in Lubbock, Texas, reported that Emmett was shot and killed, citing a law enforcement source.

The Incident

Around 2:30 a.m., Emmett was “approached by two unknown suspects as he sat in his vehicle in front of his residence in the 1800 block of N. Prairie Avenue. The suspects displayed a handgun and an altercation ensued, during which the victim was shot as he ran away from the suspects,” Dallas police said in a statement.

Witnesses told police they saw two suspects flee the scene after getting into a white Chrysler 300.

While at Texas Tech from 2000-04 he was selected with the 35th overall pick by Seattle. However, he then went to Memphis. His time in the NBA was short as he only played a total of 14 games. But his international career spanned from Puerto Rico, China, Lithuania, to Korea and the Philippines and quite a few other teams along the way.

He also spent time in the D-League and was an all-star in 2012, 2015. Most recently he had played the last two seasons in the Big3 Basketball league. Last season he scored more points than anyone except Joe Johnson, who just got back into the NBA. Reports say he had also just become a father as well.

The Big3 had this to say as well…

“Thank you for the competitor you were on the court and the incredible person you were off of it,” Texas Tech Basketball wrote on Twitter. “And for the many amazing memories, you helped create. Thank you for inspiring the entire Texas Tech family. Rest In Peace, Dre.”

Here at Belly Up Sports, we send our condolences to his friends and family. RIP Andre Emmett.
