We’ve seen some memorable moments in the WWE during the past 12 months. Without a shadow of a doubt, the biggest moments centered around the evolution of Becky Lynch in the WWE.
From the lovable ‘Irish Lass Kicker’ to ‘The Man,’ Lynch took the world by storm. She went from a superstar trying to gain any opportunity to one of the most powerful superstars in the women’s division. Heck, why stop there? Some even call Lynch one of the faces of the entire WWE.
Who knew that a slap to her best friend would change everything?
Boiling Point
The summer of 2018 sent Becky Lynch on an incredible hot streak. Victory after victory landed her a Smackdown Women’s Championship match at ‘The Biggest Party of the Summer.’ Lynch had her chance to get back the title she first held for the brand and the WWE Universe stood firmly in her corner. Besides Carmella, who held the title at that time, Charlotte Flair became the only other roadblock that stood in her way as a late addition to the title match.
Towards the end of the SummerSlam match, Lynch closed in on the victory. She had Carmella in the Dis-Arm-Her with the champ seconds away from tapping out when Flair blindsided Lynch. Charlotte made her way back into the ring, hit her finisher on Becky, and picked up the win.
While Flair celebrated her new title, Lynch looked distraught on the ropes. Her crowning moment ripped from her hands! Flair and Lynch hugged in the middle of the ring, and Lynch appeared to have accepted defeat. Out of nowhere, the WWE Universe witnessed the biggest turn ever! Lynch slapped Flair and sent the audience into an uproar. Becky continued the beat down in and out of the ring. A clear sign that her days of being upstaged were over!
No More Lass Kicker
Two days after SummerSlam, Lynch chewed out the Smackdown crowd saying that they never stood behind her, to begin with. She also voiced her anger about being denied opportunities that eventually went to Flair. When Charlotte came down to the ring to confront Becky, the former best friends brawled again. Although this intended to be a ‘heel turn,’ the audience stood behind Lynch even more.
Their turmoil led to a title match that year at Hell in a Cell. Lynch beat Flair to capture her second Smackdown Women’s Championship. Becky and Charlotte continued to battle over the title, which led to their epic Last Woman Standing match at the history Evolution event. Lynch walked away victorious after a massive powerbomb to Flair through a table.
During her feud with Charlotte, all that anyone could talk about was Becky Lynch. She became the face of the women’s division and prided herself as being the top wrestler in the WWE. Hence, The Man arrived and stomped the Lass Kicker into oblivion! The evolution of Becky Lynch in WWE took off!
Just a small setback
With Survivor Series on the horizon in November 2018, Lynch had her eyes set on her next opponent, Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey. They traded promos back and forth on their respective shows. Lynch led the Smackdown women on evasion of Monday Night just days before the Survivor Series showdown. A calculated and brutal attack that resulted in Lynch leaving the show that night on top of the world!
However, The Man suffered for it as she received a broken nose and concussion from Nia Jax during the attack. Lynch chose Charlotte Flair as her replacement for the Survivor Series match and watched from the sidelines. 2018 did not end well for Lynch as she lost her Smackdown Women’s title to Asuka during their historical Triple Threat TLC match (with Flair) after Rousey tipped over the ladder with Lynch and Flair at the top of it.
History Maker
Becky climbed her way back to the top to start of 2019 when she won the Women’s Royal Rumble match. During Raw the following night, she immediately chose Rousey as her WrestleMania opponent. Lynch faced her ups and downs on the road to WrestleMania – Knee injury, suspension, removed from the WrestleMania match, replaced by Flair again, and having to fight to get her spot back.
The WrestleMania match became the talk of the WWE after the announcement that the title match would be the main event of the show. Charlotte Flair threw another log onto the fire when she captured the Smackdown Women’s title, and the WrestleMania match turned into a ‘Winner Takes All’ scenario with both titles on the line.
The ladies did not disappoint that night! Lynch eventually pinned Rousey for the victory. The Man walked away that night with two belts and being the first to pin Ronda Rousey in the WWE. Talk about your historical moments!
