Today was the first game of the WNBA Finals and the Washington Mystics took the lead beating the Connecticut Sun 95-86. This was a very interesting game to watch. By halftime, the Mystics was up and had the lead by a long shot. Elena Delle Donne played a great game leading with 22 points for the night. It’s no wonder she’s the MVP this season. The Washington Mystics take a win for game 1.

She also managed to knock off 10 rebounds and five assists for the win. Ariel Atkins wasn’t too far behind her helping lead the team to victory with 21 points and five rebounds. They also had some more big scorers for the night with Kristi Toliver putting 18 points on the board and Natasha Cloud knocking down 13 points, seven assist, and four rebounds. With this type of gameplay, the Mystics are showing, they may be on their way to the championship. It’s the first finals win in franchise history for the Mystics, who were swept last year by Seattle early on. If they continue to put up a number like this, I can see them coming out with a win every night.

The Connecticut Sun put up a great game as well. Even though they didn’t come out with a win for the first game, that doesn’t mean we can count them out just yet. Courtney Williams had a great game, leading her team in scoring with 26 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Alyssa Thomas also had a good game on the court, scoring 20 points, six rebounds and six assists. It was good seeing them both on the court really fighting for this win. This game Connecticut were shooting at 48 percent from the field while the Washington Mystics were shooting at 54 percent. In order for Connecticut to see some progress. I think they need to tighten up their defense and put up some more good shots. The Washington Mystics take a win for game 1 in the WNBA finals.

Game two is scheduled for Tuesday in Washington. Let’s hope the Sun bring their A game to the court and we can see them step up and tie up the series.
