NXT gave us a treat as they unleashed their massive line-up for the two-hour season premiere on the USA network. The Full Sail crowd was electric and ready for anything! This included a couple of surprises as we saw Adam Cole’s golden night spoiled by huge returns.

Let me catch you up!

Welcome Home

The show kicked off in top form with the NXT Championship match between Matt Riddle and Cole. Due to The Original Bro’s arm-bar the week before, the champ came out sporting a cast on his right hand.  Both men brought the fight; however, Cole picked up the win and retained his title thanks to the cast.

The champ did not have long to celebrate as the music of an unexpected visitor came on. Full Sail received the shock of a lifetime when Finn Bálor, the longest reigning NXT champ in history, slowly made his way to the stage. At first, you would think that this is a one-time appearance. Bálor stood toe-to-toe with Adam Cole and proclaimed that he was once again NXT.

Someone wants Goldie back

The NXT Tag Team Championship match closed out the show. Thanks to a little assistance from Roderick Strong, Bobby Fish and Kelly O’Reilly retained their titles over The Street Profits. All three guys celebrated in the ring as their golden prophecy remained intact.

Their fearless leader Adam Cole came out on the stage to celebrate with them. All was well until Cole received his second shock of the night from another former NXT champ. He slowly looked to his left and noticed Tommaso Ciampa walking towards him. As he circled around the champ, Ciampa’s eyes fixated on an old friend in Cole’s possession. As the two stared each other down, Ciampa sent a clear message – He wants Goldie back!

Now that we saw Adam Cole’s golden night spoiled by the return of two former NXT champions, what does this mean for his title reign? Is he facing a possible triple threat match down the line? I guess we’ll have to see what happens next!

In other premiere news, we witnessed Shayna Baszler claim another victim as she retained her NXT Women’s championship against Candice LeRae. Io Shirai, Johnny Gargano and Pete Dunne also picked up victories in their respective matches. The Velveteen Dream graced the NXT audience with his presence as well to challenge Roderick Strong for the NXT North American title.

Business is picking up at Full Sail University!
