On May 18, 2017, the music world was saddened to hear about the passing of grunge heavyweight, Chris Cornell, who took his own life after dealing with depression for the majority of his life.
After the 52-year old singer was found dead in his hotel room in Detroit, Michigan following Chris’s concert with Soundgarden on May 17, 2017, which brought sadness and devastation to many, including Chris’s good friend and academy award-winning actor, Brad Pitt.
Pitt and Cornell’s friendship dates back to over 2 decades, with the two publicly supporting one another in both of their careers. Pitt reportedly told Cinema Confidential, “I’m a big Chris Cornell addict, anything he does.”
A few weeks removed from his split from Angelina Jolie, Pitt made one of his first public appearances to introduce Cornell at the ROCK4EB! charity event in Malibu, California, alongside Police front-man, Sting.
“I get to introduce a very, very good friend of mine,” Pitt said of the Soundgarden front-man before he and Sting performed The Police’s 1983 hit, “Every Breath You Take,” as well as Soundgarden’s 1994 hit, “Black Hole Sun.”
Pitt always tried to attend Cornell’s concerts whenever he could, with Cornell also supporting Brad’s acting career.
Cornell, alongside his wife, Vicki, attended the premiere of Pitt’s movie, Moneyball, starring Brad and Jonah Hill, at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival.
In an upcoming documentary film about the life and legacy of the Audioslave and Soundgarden frontman, Brad Pitt will attempt to put viewers in the room during some of the most pivotal moments of Chris’s life.
Alongside Chris’s wife, Vicky, and Peter Berg (Director), Brad Pitt will produce the documentary, entitled, “Like A Stone”, in reference to one of Cornell’s biggest hits with Audioslave.
The film will include dramatization scenes from the life of Cornell, with actor Lauchlin McDonald playing the role of the acclaimed rockstar, with Drena De Niro depicting Vicky Cornell.
Not to under-utilize Chris’s work, there will be archival footage of Soundgarden, Audioslave and Pearl Jam used in the film as well.
While not disputing prior reports to herself and Pitt producing this documentary, Vicky Cornell said there was no dramatic film coming out with actors playing the role of her late husband, as an IMDb page reported earlier this week.
It’ll be interesting to see how this film depicts Cornell’s life, as the music world is eager to learn more about the pain he carried leading up to his finals days.
