When Green Day declared that they were going back on the road just a few short weeks ago, rock made it’s way back into the news.

Green Day, Weezer and Fall Out Boy will be teaming up for an epic triple bill next summer, as the trio announced their “Hella Mega” 2020 stadium tour, beginning with a European leg, that starts on June 13 in Paris.

The stadium tour in the states will include visits to L.A.’s Dodger Stadium on July 25, Dallas’ Globe Life Field on July 31, and New York’s Citi Field on August 22.

“It’s kind of a Green Day idea … to do something that was like a throwback to the Monsters of Rock Tour,” Green Day front-man Billie Joe Armstrong said during an interview on Zane Lowe’s show on Apple Music Beats 1.

Hella Mega Tour lineup

The trio performed a special show at Whiskey A Go-Go in West Hollywood on September 10, while also simultaneously releasing new singles, with Green Day dropping “Father of All…”, Weezer dropping “The End of The Game” on their upcoming “Van Weezer” album and Fall Out Boy dropping “Dear Future Self”.

All three bands are now affiliated with Crush Music.

This tour has the potential to revive the rock genre in 2020, as the genre has taken a massive hit in the 21st century, with bands like Greta Van Fleet jumping the scene just recently.

Hella Mega Tour

In an interview with USA Today back in 2018, Guns N’ Roses lead guitarist, Slash, spoke about Rock’s fall in the 21st century, saying it “isn’t a mainstream genre anymore.”

Rock isn’t mainstream anymore, and in some ways, I like that. It harks back to when rock ‘n’ roll was more of an underground concept – when people were speaking about things that they weren’t necessarily comfortable saying in the mainstream arena.

“As far as hip-hop is concerned, it’s become so generic at this point. It’s definitely taken on a very Top-40 thing.”

Given they all released new singles simultaneously and have been making their rounds on late night talk shows, including Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the trio should receive mainstream attraction going into their summer tour next year.
