During their press conference on Wednesday in Riyadh, WWE made a huge announcement! Natalya and Lacey Evans will compete in the first-ever women’s match in Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel. Women will make history once again in the WWE!

Natalya and Evans are not strangers to one another in the ring. The ladies went toe-to-toe a few times over the past couple of months. Evans showed the ultimate disrespect in copying the Sharpshooter. Natalya got the last laugh when she defeated Evans in their Last Woman Standing Match on Raw.

WWE events in Saudi Arabia have not been well received by the WWE Universe in the past. Up until Crown Jewel, women were not allowed to complete in the country. This match marks a huge step forward not only in the Women’s Evolution, but in a society that hasn’t granted women the same opportunities as men.

Second Time Around

Only one women’s match has taken place before in the Middle East. On December 7, 2017, Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss broke major barriers when they competed in Abu Dhabi. One memorable moment from the match was fans chanting “This is hope!”

In keeping with culture, Banks and Bliss wore specially designed body suits to cover their skin. It’s more than likely that both Evans and Natalya will follow the same pattern.

Monumental Moment

News broke on Twitter earlier today with congratulations pouring in from the WWE Universe. Natalya and Evans also received tweets from the likes of Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Renee Young, Mandy Rose and Nikki Cross on this milestone.

Many thought that this day would never come, but it’s happening. Women will make history once again in the WWE! The women’s evolution has grown leaps and bounds over the last few years. Now, the evolution is expanding in the hopes of bringing changes to women’s culture all over the world.

Here’s to the start of more changes to come!

Until next time, Belly Up fans!
