The New Jersey Devils have found their starting goalie for the rest of the season in MacKenzie Blackwood. Because of it, Cory Schneider was placed on waivers by New Jersey. It was effective as of noon Eastern Time on Monday.

If Schneider is not picked up by any team, he will report to the Binghamton Devils (AHL). In six games so far this season, his record is 0-4-1 with a .852 save percentage and a 4.59 GAA.

Cory Schneider has had issues with injuries in his career but he hasn’t been the same ever since. Schneider was supposed to be the goalie that led them to a Stanley Cup title in the near future, but it will most likely not happen now.

This team plays much better without him anyway. I don’t understand why Schneider was the starting goalie, to begin with, to start the season.

He has two more years left on his contract after this season. Corey Schneider currently has a cap hit of $6 million.

If any team were able to claim him off of waivers, the Toronto Maple Leafs is one of the teams that come to mind.

In Schneider’s career, he has appeared in 402 games. His record is 167-157-57. Corey Schneider’s save percentage in his career so far has been .918 with a 2.43 GAA, along with 25 shutouts. He is 33 years old.

Louis Domingue was called up from the AHL. He is 27 years old. Domingue was in the Tampa Bay Lightning’s farm system earlier in the season with the Syracuse Crunch.

He played in four games with them. His record was 2-1-1 with a .863 save percentage and a 3.81 GAA.

In four games with the Binghamton Devils so far this season. Louis Domingue’s record was 2-1-1 with a .918 save percentage and a 2.25 GAA.

MacKenzie Blackwood is only 22 years old for the New Jersey Devils. In 14 games played so far this season, his record is 7-4-3 with a .904 save percentage and a 2.79 GAA, along with one shutout.

In 37 career games played, Blackwood’s record is 17-14-3 with a .913 save percentage and a 2.68 GAA, along with three shutouts.

He has been by far the best goalie for New Jersey for the past couple of years. This is his team now between the pipes.

Also, it has been a rough go for Cory Schneider over the past couple of seasons and it was a shame that he was never able to get back to form. Maybe either a stint in the minors or a change of scenery will help out his career moving forward.

The Devils are currently in the last place in the Metropolitan Division so far this season. Their record is 7-8-4 with 18 points. They have scored 50 goals and given up 69 goals.

Blackwood gives them the best chance to get back into the playoff race.

New Jersey is currently six points back of the Philadelphia Flyers for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with a 10-6-4 record with 24 points.
