The Carolina Panthers are 5-3 to start the 2019 season. They were 0-2 with Cam Newton in the lineup.

Kyle Allen took over as the starting quarterback in Week 3 because Newton had to deal with a foot injury. Carolina is 5-1 ever since and their only loss was on the road against a dominant San Francisco 49ers team.

On Tuesday, the Panthers decided to place Cam Newton on injured reserve for the rest of the season. What does this mean for Carolina and Newton moving forward?

Cam Newton is 30 years old and he was the number one overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Newton helped them get to Super Bowl L against the Denver Broncos, but they lost. Cam Newton also MVP that same year as well.

He has one more year left on his contract. They will most likely trade him to another team that could use a quarterback or release him.

The cap hit is $21.1 million if Newton is kept on the roster. If they let him go, $19.1 million would be saved and the Carolina Panthers would be able to sign another player at a position they desperately need.

In two games played this season, he completed 50-of-89 passes for 572 yards and one interception. Cam Newton also rushed for -2 yards on five carries.

In his career, he has completed 2371-of-3980 passes for 29,041 yards 182 touchdowns and 108 interceptions.

Newton has rushed for 4.806 yards on 934 carries and 58 touchdowns. He has also started in 124 games in his career and Cam Newton has appeared in 125 games in his career.

I would be surprised to see him never play football again, but I think he will be in the NFL in 2020 quarterbacking for either the Chicago Bears, the Denver Broncos, or the Tennessee Titans.

It will be interesting to see now how Kyle Allen continues to develop his game for the rest of the season and I think he will be the starting quarterback moving forward.

Will Grier was taking in the fourth-round of the 2019 NFL Draft. I thought he was going to maybe get a look once they announced back in Week 2 that Cam Newton would be out for a while, but Allen has done a very good job up to this point.

He will be in the ring of honor one day with his number in the rafters at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Newton meant a lot to this franchise.
