I thought about putting a little intrigue into the headline of this blog. But I’m going to make my feelings on who the Dolphins should draft in next year’s draft. That person is Tua Tagovailoa. I realize this is going to offend folks out there who are out on Tua. I understand your weariness about drafting him. I’ll do a more deep dive into all things Dolphin’s draft as we get closer to April. But simply put, I think he’s awesome and I don’t think his hip injury will ever happen again. The Dolphins should draft Tua and like Stone Cold would say “that’s all I got to say about that.”
Moving on to yesterday’s contest; the Dolphins are a thrill ride. They looked dominant and meek all in one game and in the end, did enough to pull out a victory. They pulled out a victory, I admit, that I didn’t want them to pull out. I was at the sportsbook at my local casino wearing Miami Dolphin attire and I was actively wanting the Bengals to win. I know that’s a bit of a fashionable contradiction, but draft position matters. There’s a big difference between picking 3rd or 6th. If you don’t think so, then I don’t know what to tell you.
Those stealthy Lions have been losing the whole time and nobody has noticed because they’re the Lions. They’ve jumped the Dolphins in the draft order and are a serious roadblock in the quest for Tua. I don’t think anyone would be surprised if Detroit took Tua and had him sit behind Stafford. It actually makes a ton of sense and that’s exactly what I’m going to bank on if Detroit is ahead of Miami. That it’s too obvious for them to do it, therefore they won’t.
But there I was, at the casino, watching Fitzpatrick carve up the hapless Bengals. It got me thinking; what if we could wind the clocks back to the beginning of the season and just go with the team we had and made a run at it? Keep Tunsil, Fitzpatrick, Drake and just try and win it. Do we win another five games and get into the playoffs? Perhaps, but I’m still for the decision to start over and do a proper rebuild. I can do without getting blasted by the Chiefs in the 1st round of the playoffs.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is the story for this year’s team. He goes out there chews gum and just slings it. It gets said every week, but the guys in that locker room love to play for him. Here’s what he’s done this year with one of the worst o-lines assembled:
My perfect scenario is that the Dolphins draft Tua and he sits and learns behind Fitzpatrick next year. He doesn’t need to throw one pass next year. All these guys who get drafted in the top 10 and start right away, let’s go the other way and have him sit the entire year.
Good for Christian Wilkins.
He needs more work at DT, but he’s gotten better as the season went along. I’m all for Flores using a guy like Wilkins on offense. The Patriots have done that kind of stuff for 19 years. It seems like it’s worked out pretty well for them.
DeVante Parker is a dude and I’m glad he’s our dude for the next few years.
The Dolphins offense will be formidable next year. They’ll get a running back in free agency and have a very unique receiving cores. Parker leads the receivers and is a legit #1 receiver. It feels like he’s going to bring down ever jump ball. It’s so watching him leap for the ball. I can watch it all day.
I’m happy to announce that the #FreeGesicki movement has hit a stride I didn’t think would happen.
Gesicki has figured some things out and Chad O’Shea has certainly figured some things out when it comes to using a TE in a Dolphin’s uniform. Mike will probably never be Gronk but he can still be a top 5 TE in the league. Who would have thunk it sending him down the seams and using his athleticism was a good thing to do?
The Dolphin’s defense is bad. There no other way to put it. You can’t be up 35-12 in the 4th quarter and get put to overtime unless you’re really bad. Chase Young would have helped immensely but that dream is dead. The secondary is averagish (yes I know Howard isn’t there) and they get no help from the pass rushers. That’s a problem and Flores knows it. He’ll address that and you’ll see new defensive ends next season.
Miami finishes with New England next week. The Patriots will have to play to secure the 2nd seed in the playoffs, so I’m not expecting Miami to win. It looks like if everything goes the way it should that Miami will be drafting at 5. You have one more week of Dolphin’s football. Enjoy it and Happy Festivus.
