My favorite shooter of the decade is Las Vegas shooting guard Kayla McBride. McBride’s first season in the WNBA was in 2014 when she was drafted third overall by the San Antonio Stars.

San Antonio Stars

In her first season with the Stars, McBride averaged 13 points a game and shot 40% from the field. McBride shot an impressive 39% from three-point land. She made 57 out 144 three-point shots. McBride went on to score the most points by a Stars rookie since they relocated to San Antonio, scoring 442 points. McBride also helped lead the Stars to the WNBA playoffs, where she averaged 22.5 points per game.

In 2015 McBride shot 37% from three and averaged 13.8 points per game. McBride was voted to the WNBA All-Star game. In the 2016 season, McBride played in only 17 games due to right foot injury; she only shot 30% from three that season but her scoring average was up to 17.1 per game. McBride struggled again in 2017, shooting just 31% percent from the field, but she made an average of 15.4 points per game and shot 92% from the free-throw line.

Las Vegas Aces

When the Stars relocated to Las Vegas to become the Las Vegas aces, that’s when McBride started to find her shooting stroke again. In 2018 McBride brought her shooting percentage up to a career 44% and shot 39 percent from three. Also, she averaged 18.2 points per game. You can tell this is when McBuckets started to find her stroke and was deadly from outside.

Kayla McBride shot a career-high 42% from three this past season, but her scoring average was down to 13 points per game. But that is because of two other star players Liz Cambage and A’Ja Wilson. Cambage and Wilson did help McBride get more open looks, and she took advantage of them.

For her career, McBride is a 40% shooter from the field and 37% from three-point land. Also, she is excellent free throw shooter shooting 89% from the free-throw line. McBride is one of the best shooters in the WNBA and is only going to keep getting better as her career goes on.
