As the decade comes to a close, we will examine the top five centers of the decade in the WNBA.

Sylvia Fowles Chicago Sky/Minnesota Lynx

Sylvia Fowles put together a very impressive decade; she made seven ALL -WNBA teams and five All-Star appearances in the decade. Also, Fowles made Six WNBA All-Defensive First Teams and won WNBA defensive player of the year three times. Fowles is a beast on both ends of the court; she plays a very physical style of basketball that helped lead the Lynx to two WNBA Championships in 2015 and 2017. In both championships, she won WNBA Finals MVP.

Brittney Griner Phoenix Mercury

Since coming into the WNBA, Brittney Griner has been a dominant player in the league; she has led the WNBA in blocks for seven straight seasons. Griner has been a member of the All-Defensive Teams six times and is two time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year. In 2014, Griner helped the Mercury win the WNBA Championship; the six-time All-Star is two time WNBA scoring Champion. Griner is a force on both the offense and defensive ends; on defense, it hard for opposing teams to get shots inside with her shot-blocking ability. At 6’9, Griner has the moves in the post to make her even challenging to guard. In the decade, Griner averaged 17.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and three blocks per game.

Tina Charles Connecticut Sun/New York Liberty

Tina Charles is one of the most underrated players in the WNBA. She was drafted number one overall by the Sun in 2010. Charles won Rookie of the year in 2010 and was WNBA MVP in 2012. She made a total of eight ALL WNBA Teams and seven All-Star appearances, Charles is also an outstanding defensive player making four WNBA All-Defensive Teams in the decade. Charles averages 18.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.

Liz Cambage Tulsa Shock/Dallas Wings/ Las Vegas Aces

While Liz Cambage does not have the accolades as the other members on the list, she is still one of the most dominating players in the league. Cambage is three-time All-Star, and in 2018 she averaged a career-high 23 points per game. When it’s playoff time, Cambage knows how to raise the level of her game; she averages 23.3 points per game in the playoffs.

Jonquel Jones Connecticut Sun

Jonquel Jones is an up and coming player she is outstanding on the defensive end and rebounding as well. Jones is a two-time All-Star and led the WNBA in rebounding in 2017 and 2019. In 2019, Jones led the WNBA in blocks. She averages 12.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game in four seasons. Jones is also a capable shooter from the outside for the Sun.
