The first RAW of 2019 has come and gone and it sure had people talking. Take your pick you had a big announcement, two big title matches back to back, a big promo by the man, a big takedown by security on a “fan”, and the return of the Big Show.
I’ll start right off by saying I’m in the minority but I like the idea of Brock Lesnar in the Royal Rumble. Brock entering at number one gives us a good look at who he may be facing at Wrestle Mania. Sure he is going to be lay waste to about 10-15 wrestlers but I’d rather see him in the Rumble instead of a no build up title match.
Should he defend the title in the Rumble? Of course he should but I’m not going to complain about things I have no control over. Wouldn’t it be something if Brock is one and Kofi is 2? Maybe just maybe we get more action compared to that disgrace of a title match on the first episode of SmackDown on Fox.
RAW Rolls On
I liked the U.S. Title match between Andrade and Rey Mysterio Jr. because they are such good wrestlers but I thought the match went to long, and I couldn’t understand why Rey had to have his mask tore off after he lost? I heard the rumors that this feud is not over but not quite sure creative had to book that moment?
The tag team triple threat was good also. The Viking Raiders, OC, and Street Profits all did their part to make the match what it was. I was thinking title change her but I was pleased to see the Viking Raiders retain the belts. The OC is the only other team that need the belts, people will dance with the Street Profits win or lose. I wanted the OC to win because I believe tag team wrestling is better when the faces are chasing the heels.
Who doesn’t want to see Becky and Asuka at the Royal Rumble. The promo with the two was excellent because it made Becky look like she did last year when everyone fell in love with her after the punch heard round the world. Just when you think Asuka is the bully, boom a throat punch out of nowhere.
The most exciting part of the recapping the wedding and interviews was the takedown of a “fan” after the A.J. Styles match. I know it’s being reported it was scripted, but I’ll take that over this whole love triangle. I know it did well in ratings, but I just don’t like Liv being involved. Maybe it will work for her, I hope so.
For how excited Kevin Owens was to see his mystery partner, I was disappointed. Not because I don’t like Big Show, it’s because all this leads to is another heel turn for show. Somehow Show will turn on Kevin and Joe, and they will be back to square one.
I’d rather use a guy like Aleister Black, who deserves time with the main event. Then you could have Buddy Murphy join the fray, leading to an awesome faction of Seth, AOP, and Buddy Murphy. Seth as the mentor to three potential studs.
I enjoyed the show overall I think it has potential to be very interesting during this hot season of wrestling. Here’s to hoping more consistency continues. Let us see what WWE Monday Night RAW brings us next week.
