You think you know a guy. You think oh here’s a nice, humble young man who would do anything for people and puts others ahead of himself. Yep, we all thought we knew exactly everything about National Champion Joe Burrow, but you’d be wrong. If you think I’m wrong, read what he had to say about his future and try not shaking your head to the point you give yourself whiplash when you hear Joe Burrow wanting to get paid. As per Bleacher Report;

“Whoever wants to pay me money to play the game of football, I’ll play for ’em. It doesn’t matter to me,” Burrow said, per Josh Wingrove of Bloomberg.

I just don’t get it. Why is a guy who was passed off by a few colleges, who transferred from Ohio St to LSU, who put up one of the greatest seasons for a QB in college football history, and a projected top pick, saying that he’ll play anywhere in the NFL as long as they pay him? That’s not what he’s supposed to be saying. He’s supposed to be saying that all he cares about are his teammates, that he lives for weight and film room and that he’d be playing this kid’s game for free if that what it meant he had to do keep playing football.

Doesn’t Joe Burrow know that when he says that he’s automatically making himself undraftable? Saying that he cares about getting paid to play the most dangerous game out there, besides Jai Alai, puts him right in the same company of guys like Johnny Manziel. No way he realized that when he said this. He must have been still feeling the effects of that cigar he had after the game or whatever beverage Odell Beckham forced him to consume because there is no way any football player in their right mind whatever say that they’re playing football because it pays extremely well.

Joe Burrow wanting to get paid and smoking a cigar

Don’t focus on guys like Andrew Luck, Rob Gronkowski, Doug Baldwin and Luke Kuechly who walked away from the game of football at relatively young ages. I’m sure if they had it their way, they would have played for free as well. But you know how it goes, if they don’t accept the money then that will screw up the next selfish player who does have the narcissistic idea of getting paid to run into other human beings at full speed, thus leading to a worse life as they age. I’m sure they donated all of their salaries to charity the moment they got their checks.

Let’s hope that this was just a slip of the tongue by a young person that got caught up in the moment of being a popular guy. I would imagine that Joe will retract this statement and let everyone know just how out of line he was and that he’s sorry if this offended anyone. I also hope he sends a message to the fans of this great game that he didn’t mean for them to think less of him due to him wanting and caring about money. That he knows that they themselves work for free in whatever their line of work is. Maybe if Joe Burrow does all that, he once again can be considered being a guy that some NFL teams would give a shot at being on their football squad. It won’t be instant, but maybe someday we’ll see Joe Burrow in the NFL. Best of luck Joe and Godspeed.
