Welcome to the Dragon’s Lair where we talk about everything about our beloved Seattle Dragons. As a 10 day long life long fan of the Dragons of the pacific northwest, I’ll be here week in and week out discussing everything I can about the Dragons. The Dragon’s Lair is a safe place for everyone to let out all of their Seattle Dragons’ joy and frustration. It’s a judgment-free lair and we’re going to keep it that way.

It’s been nearly one week since we watched our beloved Seattle Dragons begin their quest for the…. whatever Vinny Mac is calling the XFL championship. Admittedly, the Dragons came out and didn’t play the type of football that we expected them to play. Things were too sloppy, to choppy. Basically, it wasn’t Dragon football. Dragon football is about playing a sound game while out hitting/smarting/gritting the opponent. Whatever’s been affecting brooms worldwide, must it made to the locker room of the Dragons because they definitely weren’t themselves.

But alas, this is a new week and the Seattle Dragons host the Tampa Bay Vipers. It’s an opportunity to show the galaxy that the Dragons are not to be trifled with. Tough break for the visiting Vipers of Tampa Bay. It wasn’t their fault that they wound up being the opponent after a Dragon’s loss. It must have been written in the stars. A get right game is just what the Dr. ordered. And get right is exactly what our Seattle Dragons will do.

Right off the bat, we have some perplexing news;

This is perplexing because it begs the question; Does it benefit the Dragons if Aaron Murray, the opening day starter, is playing or if he’s not playing? Murray played disgustingly last week, eventually going down with a foot injury. Not sure about you, but I’d rather Murray than his back up, Quinton Flowers. Flowers is a USF product, but he’s a man that could be a problem. He had a stint in that the other league, the NFL, for the Bengals as a running back. This means the Dragon’s DEs can’t get sucked inside like last week against a worse athlete in Cardale Jones.

On the flipside, Dragon’s QB, Brandon Silvers, is expected to play. I thought Silvers had a Mankind and Dude Love type game where he looked good at times while also looking like a guy who lives in a boiler room. I understand that donning a Dragon’s jersey comes with a load of pressure, but Silvers needs to step up. I think Silvers more than steps up and puts on a laser show.

It goes without saying, though I’m yelling it, the Dragons need to get WR Keenan Reynolds the ball. They need to get him the ball any way they can. He needs to be allowed to do his thing. He played at Navy a few years ago and was the best athlete on the field more often than not. I’ll leave this here.

It’s opening day at Century Field for the Seattle Dragons. I’m not saying that they need a little extra juice to get themselves cranked up. But, if this guy led them out that the Vipers would run out of the stadium in fear for their lives…

One of the strategies the Dragons should employ is to let Viper’s coach Marc Trestman attempt to do his job. That’s it. Just let him try and coach his team and they’ll surely screw it up real bad.

Speaking of Century Link field, if you’re in attendance when the Seattle Dragons host the Tampa Bay Vipers, you’re a doofus if you don’t get this:

Since I’ll be in the wonderful Electric City of Scranton, I’ll just imagine what it’s like to consume that splendid beef rib thing.

I’m pretty sure, we’ll once again be able to hear the soothing voice of Steve Levy. That’s a good thing.

For the Dragons to control this game and not lose to a team that has only scored three points in this league, they need to run the ball and run it often. Last week, Jimbo Zorn got away from the run too early even when it was working. That can’t happen again. Let Farrow, Gardner, and Williams take the soul away from the Viper’s defense.

Talking to red zone aficionado, Scott Hanson, Coach Zorn had this to say about having his play calls played all across the galaxy;

“I think it gave a fan a chance to hear and see something they’ve never heard before, but I felt very exposed,” Zorn said. “Information on a football team has to be guarded a little bit, so we just got it right out there. I know it had to be fun for everybody, but not super fun for me to reveal all that stuff. But I was glad I didn’t stutter or fumble the play calls.”

I’d like to live in a reality where Zorn when calling his plays, starts calling out Madden plays. Give me Zorn, covering his mouth, of course, dials up HB Angle Route. I’d like this to happen because it would be funny and because the Dragons would easily score.

Hopefully, Coach Zorn is still under the mindset to keep feeding Austin Proehl. Just in case he forgets, here’s what he did last week. Yes, I’m sure Coach Zorn will be reading this. Why wouldn’t he?

Yeah, I sort of feel bad that the Vipers are on the tracks when the Dragon Express is coming through. Bad luck I guess. Oh well, when the Seattle Dragons host the Tampa Bay Vipers they will come out and decimate them early and often. It’ll be the kind of game that will let the rest of the XFL know that whenever you play the Dragons you throw the records out. Enjoy yourselves as you watch the game.
