Kristi Toliver returns to LA.

WNBA free agency started today and the news was slow to start but once it started going, it started going. One big move is Kristi Toliver returns to LA. Kristi Toliver is leaving the reigning WNBA championship squad to join the Los Angeles Sparks.

Toliver’s History

The 5’7” guard attended Maryland University and was drafted in 2009 by the Chicago Sky. Traded to the Los Angeles Sparks in 2011. Signed with the Washington Mystics in 2017. Kristi Toliver is a two-time WNBA champion and an All-Star and even nabbed Most Improved Player in 2013.

Toliver in Washington

Kristi averaged 15 points and 6 assists during the 2019 finals. During game three, against the Connecticut Sun, Kristi Toliver put up a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Toliver made a difference during the 2019 WNBA finals for the Mystics, we will see if and how her absence is felt in Washington this season. Kristi is also an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards. We are curious to see how that portion of her life evolves.

Toliver in LA

Toliver spent seven seasons on an LA Sparks roster from 2011-2017. Kristi Toliver joins the likes of Candace Parker, Chelsea Gray, and the Ogwumike sisters; Chiney and Nneka. Also heading to LA are Brittney Sykes and Marie Gülich. The LA Sparks were swept in the semifinals by the Connecticut Sun. Is Toliver the missing piece that brings LA a championship in 2020? Toliver brings passion, ball handling, laser-sharp passing, and nice three-point shot. Only time will tell but we’re sure Head coach Derek Fisher has a master plan.

We’ve already seen moves from Connecticut, Las Vegas, and Seattle and it is only day one. Follow us on Twitter and Instagram to keep up with #WNBAFreeAgency news. Check out other WNBA articles by the Belly Up Family.

I was shocked when I heard she was leaving Washington. I felt like she was the difference maker in the finals with EDD being hampered by back issues. Disbelief morphed to excitement at what these changes will mean this upcoming season!

So many big shockers during this years free agency. I agree with her being the X-factor during the finals. She will be an asset and impact player for the Sparks.

Absolutely! The Sparks just got a need spark.
