The NASCAR world somberly waits for an update on Ryan Newman’s condition after experiencing one of the hardest hits seen in NASCAR history.
As Denny Hamlin crossed the finish line to win his second, back-to-back, Daytona 500, all eyes were instead focused on the No. 6 car of Ryan Newman that was lying upside down. Although the fans of the Daytona 500 instantly knew there was something seriously wrong, FOX chose to cut to Hamlin performing donuts in the infield as his team was celebrating the victory. It was later stated however that neither Hamlin nor the Joe Gibbs team was aware of the severity of Newman’s condition.

The fact is, FOX should have kept the focus on Ryan Newman instead of the victory celebration when it was clear he was not getting out of his car. Unfortunately, the NASCAR world has seen a situation like this before with Dale Earnhardt while Michael Waltrip was celebration his victory. We should all pray that this incident has a much happier outcome and out of respect for Ryan Newman and our viewers, we will not be posting a video of the wreck until we have an update on his condition.
Never the less, the only thing the NASCAR community needs to focus on at this time is the health and safety of veteran driver, Ryan Newman. Although his wreck was caused from Ryan Blaney trying to push Newman to victory and then a collision on the diver side of his car by Corey LaJoie, it was by no means either of these drivers faults. Regardless of the outcome, this incident should remind everyone of the sheer bravery NASCAR drivers face every weekend when they enter their cars. The unfortunate truth of NASCAR is that it will never be completely safe, regardless of all the safety measures taken. That danger faced by these drivers is exactly what makes them such incredible athletes, willing to risk their lives to preform their passion from all of us fans.
We at Belly Up Sports, wholeheartedly pray for Ryan Newman and his loved ones.
