On Monday night, there was a top-five showdown in women’s college basketball, the No.3 Oregon Ducks at the No.4 Stanford Cardinals. Oregon used strong defense to beat Stanford 74-66, the win moved Oregon 26-2 and 15-1 in the Pac-12. Oregon held Stanford to just 39 percent from the field. At one point in the game, the Ducks led by 19 points before Stanford cut into the lead. But it was too much Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally for Stanford to overcome.

Early in the day on Monday, Ionescu attended the Kobe Bryant memorial service and gave a fantastic speech to honor her friend. After the memorial, Ionescu hopped on an airplane to make in time for Oregon’s game against Stanford. That there proved how much Bryant meant to her.

In the game against Stanford, Ionescu showed off her “Mamba Mentality.” The Oregon star scored 21 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and dished out five assists, giving her a triple-double. Ionescu is already the NCAA’s all-time leader in triple-doubles.

Also, on Monday night, Ionescu made history once again. When she grabbed her ninth rebound, Ionescu became the first Division 1 player in history to score 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 1,000 assists. She now has 2,467 points, 1,041 rebounds, and 1,003 assists. Ionescu is no doubt headed for greatness at the next level.

Ionescu had this to say about her history-making moment, ” That one was for him, to do it on 2/24/20 is huge. We had talked about it in the preseason. I can’t really put that into words. He’s looking down and really proud of me and just really happy for this moment with my team.”

Satou Sabally

Sabally led the Ducks in scoring against Stanford; she scored 27 points on ten out of 17 shooting from the field. Sabally shot 4-7 from behind the arc and also added nine rebounds. The Oregon star forward has been having an impressive season and has been a perfect teammate for Sabrina Ionescu.
