The WNBA offseason has been wild and exciting so far; on Thursday night, it got even wilder. After 14 seasons with the Minnesota Lynx, Seimone Augustus had decided to sign with Los Angeles Sparks.

Last season with the Lynx, Augustus appeared in only 13 games due to knee surgery. In those 13 games, Augustus managed to score 3.8 points per in 13 minutes per game.

Sparks coach Derek Fisher had this to say about the addition of Augustus, “Seimone Augustus I’ve admired from a distance throughout her illustrious career. She is a leader, fierce competitor, and a winner. We’re excited to work with her and have her join our group as we continue to build towards the vision we have for our 2020 season.”

In Augustus’s 14 seasons with the Lynx, she made eight All-Star teams, Six All-WNBA teams, and is a four-time WNBA champion with the Minnesota Lynx.

The eight-time All-Star had this to say about joining the Sparks, ” Through intense playoffs battles and time with Team USA teammates, I have come to know Sparks Character and commitment to winning. I’m excited to join friends who are now teammates to chase another ring.

Augustus, in her 14 seasons with the Lynx averaged 15.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists a game. Also, shot 48% from the field and 35.9% from behind the arc. The future Hall of Famer is 11th in the WNBA in points scored with 5,881 points.

What Augustus Brings To The Sparks

The Sparks signed Kristi Toliver, re-signed Tierra Ruffin-Pratt, and traded for Brittney Sykes and Marie Gulich. Adding Augustus gives them even more depth from one of the deepest teams in the WNBA.

Augustus is on the downside of her career, but when called upon, she could give the Sparks a spark off the bench. She could come in and score in bunches. The former Lynx star is a competitor and hard worker. Her most significant attribute she will bring to the Sparks is her veteran leadership on and off the court. After the way, the playoffs ended for the Sparks with friction between the players and coach Fisher. Augustus could be the bridge between player and coach as well.
