The ERSCA Pristine Auction Series took over Richmond and it was all about Nick Masse. He started from the pole, led the majority of the race, and reclaimed the lead from behind in the GWC finish. Talking with Chris Wright and Rattlesnake pre-race on Discord, Wright said everyone would be chasing Masse. There was plenty of “short track racin” in the latter half of the race after 85 green laps. Similar to Daytona last week. I’ll recap the domination of Masse, the chaos of the final 50 or so laps, and who I believe are the top 5 in ERSCA right now. Regardless of points, more like power rankings based on the first two races.

The Man to Beat

Nick Masse sprints down the back stretch at Richmond.

From qualifying, it was clear Masse had a ton of speed. That continued in the main event. Despite pressure from Wright, Damien Leininger, Josh Adams, and others. Masse did briefly relinquish the lead later in the race. However, late-race cautions led to a lot of physical racing. The theme in the final stages of the race was chaos. Even the Green-White-Checkered finish was a little nuts. Masse restarted from third and charged to the front to take the win from Kenny Lowry. An amazing race despite all the cautions and a statement made by Nick Masse.

Chaos Ensues

Damien Leininger (12) and Marshall Stanley (25) cross the line out of control.

Cue the Danny Hamlin meme. Because short track racing is the polite way to describe what occurred last night. Some were just racing deals, but some were… well questionable. The drivers had their own opinions of what happened as always. As a fan though, i say HELL YEAH!! Last week was very gentleman like. Everyone was buddy-buddy and cheerful. Which is cool. LAST NIGHT THO. Now that was some good racing to watch. Frustrating I’m sure, but I love the mayhem. Keep it coming. Racing continues next week at Phoenix! Catch it Monday night on SYM TV Youtube channel.

Top 5 Power Rankings

Obviously still very early in the season, but this will be a weekly deal so be prepared to see new faces.

  • 1. Josh Adams
  • 2. Nick Masse
  • 3. Damien Leininger
  • 4. Brandon Key
  • 5. Scott Crump

Victory Lane: Nick Masse

“Awesome to get my first win in ERSCA so early into the season and the second win in a row for RubbinsRacin Motorsports. I wasn’t really sure what to expect going into the race. You’re never really sure if you’re going to get the long green flag runs or short stints, but fortunately, we had some longer runs and I felt that’s when the car was best. Whenever you’re fortunate enough to have a car that good, it almost puts more pressure on you in a way because its always in the back of your mind about not screwing it up or worrying about a poorly timed caution. When the caution came out with 10 to go I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out. But fortunately, I was able to barely dodge a wreck and the 22 raced me clean on old tires for the win, so shout out to him. Looking forward to the rest of the season, hopefully, I can continue to show some speed in the 48 and maybe we can make it 3 in a row for RRM. Thanks to all the league partners at BellyUp, Pristine Auction, and ProtechApp, your support for the league has been incredible and we couldn’t do it without you guys.”
