I hope that the Dolphins decide to keep Albert Wilson for next season. I’m leading out with this not because I didn’t want to bury the lead. Rather it’s because I wanted you to know that I’m going to talk about sports. I’m going to talk about sports even though the scene from World War Z where the zombies are climbing the wall is in my head and the heads of most people right now. We’ll survive the coronavirus. It will suck for a bit, but we’ll get past it. Be safe and listen to the info you’re being told. Don’t be a tough guy or gal and be dumb thinking it isn’t real.

The Dolphins, in their quest to scrap everyone they don’t think will be part of the future, have decided to release center Daniel Kilgore.

I wasn’t surprised at all on hearing that Miami will not be bringing back Reshad Jones yesterday. And I’m not shocked to hear that Kilgore is also gone. Both guys are 32, been getting injured lately, and are making to much money for what they’ve been producing, in the eyes of the Dolphins. The Dolphins have a zillion picks and will replace those guys with younger, cheaper options.

But, there is a bit of a ground-swell forming on the interweb about how the Dolphins should part ways with Albert Wilson. Honestly, I get why you would want the Dolphins to treat Wilson the same as Jones and Kilgore. He’s only played in 20 games since joining Miami back in 2018 when he signed that biggish, for a guy who only had 121 catches in four years, contract with the Chiefs. With the stacked receiver class that we’ll be seeing get selected in April, I can easily understand the impulse to say sayonara to Albert. I also can see why Wilson should get axed due to being invisible for most of the year last year.

But, here’s why I say the Dolphins should hold on to Wilson. He’s 27 years old, he got really healthy at the end of last year. And when he was at 100 percent at the end of the season, he tallied 17 catches for 197 yards. That’s what Wilson can do when an offense looks to get him the ball. So, yes you might be able to find a guy that can do slot receiver things like Wilson, but Wilson is already proven that he can do it. Given his age, there’s no reason why Wilson can’t be part of the future.

We all remember what Wilson did in 2018, especially in that Bears game where he singlehandedly took down the vaunted Bears defense…

Ryan Fitzpatrick started to build a rapport with Wilson at the end of last season. Stands the reason they can keep that going next year. Miami isn’t in the tanking business anymore so let’s go out and compete for a playoff spot. With Parker, Williams, Gesicki, and Wilson as pass catchers, the Dolphins offense have an opportunity to have one of those cool offenses that teams like the Bucs, Saints, and Chiefs (yeah, I know I’m stretching a bit but you know what I mean) that could score a ton of points. Wouldn’t that be fun? The answer is yes, it would be a lot of fun.
