I’ll be honest, I don’t think I or any other Miami fan woke up today wishing that the Dolphins would sign guard Ereck Flowers. But, that’s exactly what it appears the Dolphins will be doing on Wednesday.
Miami Dolphins agree to terms with Ereck Flowers $30M over 3 years with $19.95M fully guaranteed, per @RosenhausSports

The pros of this move are that the Dolphins are finally throwing a little bit of money towards their terrible offensive line. Flowers is versatile in that he can play tackle or guard, but he had his most success last year at guard. He’s also only 25 years old. So, it’s entirely possible that he has many quality years ahead of him. PFF has him ranked as a middle of the road linemen which is leaps and bounds better than anything the Dolphins did last year. Flowers also played his college ball at Miami. Maybe, he’s been dying to get home and now that he is he can just play loose. That would be great.
The cons of Ereck Flowers is that he only has one productive season after being the ninth overall pick back in 2015 with the Giants. That season was last year with the Redskins. I know most of us wanted Thuney or Conklin and settling for Flowers is certainly a downgrade from those guys. But, it’s important to remember that Flores and company (yes, company that isn’t there anymore) got a lot out of guys who were deemed to be subpar. Guys like Parker, Gesicki, Fitzpatrick, Needham, Biegel, and a few others stepped up their game with the new atmosphere.
The contract also seems a bit steep for a guy with only one good year under his belt. I would agree with that but there’s going to be tons of guys, around Flowers’ talent level, that are going to get crazy contracts that make you shake your head. Miami has a ton of money to work with and I think we all believe that they won’t just throw it around. So, $20 million guaranteed, $30 million overall, for a guy that has a decently high ceiling, who is an upgrade over most of the Dolphin’s current linemen is a step in the right direction in shoring up Miami’s most glaring hole.
By the way, how nice has it been to see sports being talked about? The answer is that it’s been phenomenal.
