The Seattle Seahawks are coming off a successful 2019 season. They finished the season at 11-5, missing out on the NFC West division by a matter of inches. They won their wild-card game 17-9 against the Eagles. Their season came to an end, losing at Lambeau Field to Green Bay 28-23. Now they enter the upcoming season with glaring holes and needs they have to fill, and the 2020 NFL draft will help that. Hopefully.
They have taken care of a few of those needs during the free agency period. They have re-signed OG (not Original Gangster) Mike Iupati. Also, they signed offensive linemen BJ Finney and Chance Warmack. They also inked two other OL in right tackle Brandon Shell and tackle Cedric Ogbuehi.
Potential Prospects
While the above-mentioned signings will hopefully help Russell Wilson not have to run around so much like a chicken with his head cut off, there is still the need on the other side of the line. Their defensive line and their pass rush last season were effing atrocious, and need to be addressed. 2019 first-round pick LJ Collier needs to take a giant step forward heading into his second season. While re-signing Jadaveon Clowney would also certainly help, here are some guys they could target with their 27th pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft:
AJ Epenesa (DE, Iowa)
Yetur Gross-Matos (DE, Penn St)
K’Lavon Chaisson (DE, LSU)
Ross Blacklock (DT, TCU)
Marlon Davidson (DE, Auburn)
The top three will more than likely be off the board before Seattle picks at #27. As a Seahawks fan, I would love one of the three to fall there. Davidson would be considered a reach at this pick. He is currently the 47th best available prospect according to ESPN. Blacklock would be an interesting pick. Perhaps re-signing Clowney and drafting Blacklock might allow the recently re-signed Jarran Reed to return to his 2018 form.
Or perhaps they surprise everyone by drafting someone like Clemson corner AJ Terrell. Better coverage on the wideouts would allow more time for the rushers to get to the QB.
