This is another edition of our favorite WNBA draft picks. This one has to be one of my favorites, the shooting guard position. Let’s take look at our favorite shooting guard in the WNBA draft.

Penny

My favorite shooting guard in the WNBA draft is Erica Ogwumike and according to the Draft site, she is the number 34th pick. It shouldn’t be surprising to anyone why I picked Erica Ogwumike. I am a huge fan of the Ogwumike sisters who play for the Los Angeles Sparks. All of the sisters are athletic and hustlers. There is no lazy bone in their body. Erica only being 5’9″ has to work double to get recognized. She makes it up with her numbers.

The reason I included all of her athletic accolades due to the fact she is underrated and it deserves to be recognized more often. Look at the 2019-20 All-Conference First Team and player of the year accomplishment. Yes, we know about Sabrina, Sabally, Dangerfield, Cooper and so on. But what about the underdogs of the basketball world. Erica had her best game with 33 points against North Texas. We know she can contribute on the offensive side of things.

This season she averaged 19 points per game, 26 steals, 19 blocks, and 10.3 total rebounds. Yes, Erica can do it all with her size. Don’t sleep on the underdogs. That is why she is my favorite shooting guard in the WNBA draft.

LaMarr

Mikayla Pivec has a well-rounded game; she averaged 14.9 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game for the Oregon State Beavers. Pivec is a shooting guard that can pass and rebound, her willingness to share the ball could go a long way in the WNBA. At Oregon State, Pivec shot 50 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arch; she did not take many three-point shots. On the WNBA level, she will need to improve and take more three-point shots to be a more all-around player. Pivec will probably be drafted in the second round of the draft.

Aya

Kaila Charles, 6’1″ Shooting Guard, Maryland

2019-20 Stats: 14.3 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 2.2 APG

Kaila Charles is a member of 2020 associated press all American third team. She is a dynamic guard that can do everything as a player and leader in both offense and defense. She also led the Maryland Terrapins to three Big Ten championships (2017, 2019-2020). Since her sophomore season, she has matured her powerful skills of scoring. Throughout her career, she has averaged 14.7 points per game (1,984 total points, ranked sixth in the all-time scoring list). She also has one of the best offensive rebounding rates as she averages more offensive rebounds than defensive rebounds.

Player comparison in the WNBA- She reminds me a lot of DeWanna Bonner for her steals and scoring.

She was a semifinalist for the Citizen Naismith Trophy earlier this March. She was also on the watch list of Cheryl Miller award, the Wade Trophy, the Wooden Award, and the Senior CLASS award.

Whichever team drafts her in early second-round, that will be a steal for a team that is in desperate need of a shooting guard.
