I don’t have any sources nor do I have any connections to any “insiders.” I also realize that it doesn’t take much brainpower to come to the conclusion that the Dolphins will be drafting either Tua or Herbert. This is just me sifting through the countless mounds of information that is out there. Others and I have told you to not listen to what anyone says due to nobody really knowing who anyone is going to take. I still believe that, but I just don’t see a scenario where the Dolphins don’t draft either Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert.

I haven’t made it a secret that I want Tua in Miami. Even with the groundswell of Justin Herbert rising up the board, I’ve been a Tua man through it all. Herbert wouldn’t be in the conversation if it weren’t for the injuries. The injuries are important to consider and I’ve considered them. I still want Tua. Miami passed on Drew Brees due to an injury concern and look where that got us.

Other Candidates

Of course, there are others that the Dolphins are contemplating, sort of. Isiah Simmons is a stud and would do fantastic things in Flores’ system. If Miami had a quarterback, that would be the guy I’d want. But they don’t so he’s out. Beckton, Wirfs or Wills would be excellent additions to a very pedestrian offensive line. But if the Dolphins go o-line with their first pick, the majority of the Dolphins faithful will have a collective aneurysm not seen since the Ted Ginn selection. Remember this?

And there is little chance I give in to the idea that Miami will trade the King’s ransom it would take to get to number one to draft, Joe Burrow. I’m sure they brought the idea up of trading up for Burrow, but then came to their senses and realized that they didn’t acquire all these picks to trade them away for one guy.

Why Tua Over Herbert

I think Justin Herbert is a quality player. He has all the measurables that you want in a quarterback. I just don’t love his processing speed. From the tape I’ve watched of him- of actual games, not highlights- he can get to his second and third read. But, it just looks like it’s a bit slower with him compared to Tua. It reminds me of Rosen and Tannehill. In college it was fine but in the NFL they were exposed for not processing fast enough. Tua processes information quickly and that’s what separates quarterbacks the most, in my opinion.

But, I wouldn’t be completely shocked if Miami ended up taking Herbert. I’d be hurt but not shocked. Not being able to evaluate Tua in the manner necessary due to the pandemic could possibly sway Grier and Flores. I don’t think that will happen, but it could.

Also, it’s possible they may have to trade up to get Tua if they believe someone else is going to leap them. Every team in the league, seemingly, has a rumor attached to them when it comes to trading up for Tua or Herbert. I think the “real” list is only a few teams. Fortunately, the Dolphins have most draft capital in case they need it. It’s like they have the nuclear football and know that they can use it whenever they want. Hopefully, like nuclear bombs, the Dolphins won’t have to use it.

We’re less than six days away from the most important draft in the last 20 years for the Dolphins. You’re going to hear everything about every crazy scenario and rumor. Understand that and understand you should ignore most of it. Only listen to what I’m saying because I can’t be wrong.

By the way, I’m probably going to be way wrong about everything because why not? Miami will probably draft a guard.
