America learned the secret of the New England Patriots success during NFL Draft 2020 coverage as Nike Belichick makes Patriots first selection in Round 2.
ABC’s and ESPN’s draft coverage left the NFL reeling this evening!
First, it was revealed during the national coverage of the 2020 NFL Draft that Nike Belichick, a husky mix and dog of New England Patriot head coach Bill Belichick, made the second round selection for the franchise.
Then, Nike choose Kyle Dugger– a defensive back from Division II Lenoir-Rhyne University in North Carolina.
While no one with the Patriots was available for comment, a source close to the situation told me that Patriots owner Robert Kraft was livid with this situation. This source confirmed that Kraft was heard exclaiming, “Somebody from the NFL owes me a god damn explanation!”
Teams left in scramble due to Nike Belichick; NFL Draft
This revelation has rocked the league on the evening of the draft. Several executives are fearful of Nike Belichick replacing them in their respective front office roles.
Rumors have the Atlanta Falcons negotiating a buyout of Thomas Demitroff, their current GM. Nike has emerged on the short list of finalists for his replacement.
Bill O’Brien, after numerous questionable moves made upon acquiring the GM responsibilities this off season, could not be reached for comment. Houston Texans Twitter, however, has been vocal in wanting Nike Belichick to be considered for this position.
As the news continues to break, the reaction via social media has been rampant. Questions regarding Nike Belichick’s role in New England choosing to forgo resigning Tom Brady have surfaced.
The question must be asked. Who is truly the mastermind behind the Pats run of success?
What is the future of the NFL, Nike Belichick?
There will, likely, be no answers tonight. The intrigue surrounding this breaking story has permeated the highest levels of sports media, however.
What is Nike Belichick’s future with the Patriots and the NFL? Only time will tell. We will see how draft experts and pundits rank the exploits of New England during the 2020 NFL Draft.
One thing is clear, however. If teams are hoping to pry Nike away from his current franchise, it will take a lot more than some virtual belly rubs and “good boy” DM’s. Teams had better be able to pony up some real-life dog biscuits.
