It’s finally here. The NFL Draft is finally here. Since quarantine life started, we’ve been devoid of anything really sports-related. The Last Dance aired on Sunday and that was excellent, but it was still a documentary. Today, we actually get something sports-related that will occur on a football field, whenever that is. Today, the Miami Dolphins dictate the next six to eight years of their franchise. We’ll either look back at tonight as the moment the Dolphins grabbed the AFC East by its twig and berries and clinched their fist like Thanos putting on the gauntlet for the first time or we’ll look back at it as another moment where the Dolphins we’re too weak to act and played it safe, again. Either way, tonight starts a new chapter for a franchise that’s been below mediocre for the last 20+ years.

Decades Worth of Swings and Misses

20 years ago, Dan Marino retired and it ushered in a completely new way the Dolphins were going to have to handle business. It was the first time they were looking for a quarterback, which in hindsight was part of the problem. Since that day, the Dolphins are still searching for the quarterback that can handle the position. Two decades worth of not being good enough, smart enough, or lucky enough to land a quarterback that’s worth a damn. It’s one of those things like high school; you have to almost try to fail it. Well, the Dolphins are really good at failing. No more. Players actually want to come to Miami to win not just to enjoy the weather and tax breaks.

We all the saw the latest news involving the Dolphins draft possibilities.

When I saw this, it was like in Semi-Pro when everyone sees an alley-oop for the first time and their brains break.

I couldn’t understand how I didn’t think of this already or that this scenario wasn’t talked about earlier. Maybe it was and it just got lost in the sauce with all the other garbage takes out there. But this scenario of the Dolphins getting the third overall pick while also keeping their fifth is something I’d love to see happen. It gives you everything you want. You get the quarterback you and I want, which is Tua Tagovailoa and you get your top offensive tackle. That’s either Tristan Wirfs or Andrew Thomas. I’m fine with either one of those guys. I’d rather Thomas, but only by a hair.

The Rational Way

I guess the rational way of thinking about the draft for the Dolphins is if you trust Flores and Grier right now then you have to trust them with whatever they do tonight. That’s the normal, reasonable brained thing to do. But, we’re fans and it’s difficult to not let emotion get in the way of lucid thought. We’ve seen, been through, and have felt to much pain as Dolphin’s fans.

We’ve seen all the retread, journeymen, and quarterbacks we knew from the get-go were going to stink do just that. All the ridiculous, completely avoidable situations that seem to only happen to the Dolphins like a head coach saying that he wasn’t going to Alabama only for him to go Alabama the very next day, to a grown man bully scandal, to a coach videotaping himself skiing while he professes his love for an exotic dancer. These things and more, we as Dolphin’s fans have had to endure. None of these stupid situations were ever offset by any quality Miami teams. Tonight is the night for the Dolphins to be the smart team. Tonight is the night for the Dolphins to take what’s theirs.

I’m already in my Rob Konrad jersey mentally preparing for all scenarios. I’m trying to steady my emotions for anything. I can already tell you that if the Dolphins don’t select Tua, I’m gonna lose it as if someone threw a moon at me. I’ll recover from that, but the damage will be done. I really don’t think the Dolphins pass on Tua. I keep telling myself that and it’s currently working. Fortunately, I’ll be playing this nifty NFL Drinking Game that I made. I suggest you, responsibly, play it to take the edge off.

Best Wishes

I wish you and everyone around you a wonderful evening. I’ll be writing about each Miami pick and trade, if that happens. Grab some wings, beers or whatever you need to enjoy tonight’s festivities. Understand, the importance of what occurs tonight, in the sports’ sense, not the life sense. Make sure you have that balance. The universe requires correction, a correction back to balance where the Dolphins are good again. That correction can only happen if Flores and Grier have it in them. Always remember…
