The offseason is good for two things: enabling people to get more excited about their team’s draft picks than the regular season itself and reminiscing on yesteryear when your favorite franchise didn’t use to suck quite as bad as it does today.

Here are some of the NFL teams from back in the day that would put today’s crop of talent to shame.

Eagles of 1949 Channeled the Spirit of Normandy

Football fields are often referred to by moronic pundits and commentators as theaters of war, but a bit of flying leather and a few shoulder barges don’t quite match up to skull shrapnel whizzing past your head and bullets making the water you’re submerged in fizz.

And so it was that the Eagles team, full of decorated WW2 veterans, attacked the NFL championship with the same zeal with which they stormed the Nazi lines. They went 11-1 in the regular season and then trounced the Rams 14-nothing in the championship game. There’ll never be another team quite like them for modern-day punters to wager on. Although if that means no more world wars perhaps it is a good thing.

Giants of 1986 Took Measured Brutality to a Whole New Level

Some OG NFL teams would still dominate today
Which of these teams would you have trusted to hit the end zone?

Honing aggression is one of the keys to creating a great team, and that’s just what Bill Parcells did in New York as he created a roster known for being “Giants among men”.

Although there was a certain degree of finesse mixed in with the brutal tactics employed by the likes of Leonard Marshall and Lawrence Taylor, it was mainly the bone-crunching sacks, that had opposition quarterbacks quaking, which made this team the powerhouse they were.

Packers of 1966 Had an Aura of Invincibility

There are very few teams in any sport who manage to strike such fear into their opponents that many abandon all hope even before they set foot on the field.

Such was the case with Vince Lombardi’s Packers, who turned Lambeau Field into a veritable frozen fortress on their way to amassing an incredible 56-3 record during their time together. To top it all off they won the first-ever Super Bowl, which at the time wasn’t that big of a deal. That’s right! This team was so good they even turned their noses up at the Super Bowl.
