When I was an intern at 104.5 The Team in Albany, NY last Summer, my worksite manager, Tom Goslowski (aka “Goz”) coined a term on his radio for Twitter Beef: Tweef. This is when two Twitter users get into a spat for all the Interwebs to see. On Saturday afternoon, the New York Jets traded disgruntled strong safety Jamal Adams and a draft pick to Seattle for Bradley McDougald and a bevy of picks. This includes two first-round picks in 2021 and 2022. Following the breaking news, Jets running back Le’Veon Bell chimed in on the trade and ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE.
But before we get to this Tweef, let’s look at the context of how this came about.

The Jets finished last in the AFC East for the third consecutive season. Adams made his voice heard: he wanted to win and he wanted to win soon. With over $100M in salary cap space to work with, then-general manager Mike Macagnan signed Bell away from Pittsburgh. The running back just missed a season after holding out for a bigger contract from the Steelers. It was reported that Adams had been instrumental in convincing Bell to sign with New York.
Last season was Bell’s worst statistical season as he struggled to find his place in head coach Adam Gase’s offense. In an offseason weapons-grade diatribes towards Jets management (including Gase, general manager Joe Douglas, and absentee owner Woody Johnson), Adams has been sent to the Left Coast.
Shots Fired!
Following the trade, the Tweef between Adams and Bell was on. Bell fired the first shot – and can you blame him? If a future star player recruits you to come to your team and then he turns around and throws shade at management only to get traded, I’d be pissed too.
