Jazmine Jones was selected 12th overall in the WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty; Jones will be one of seven rookies on New York’s roster this season. New York will have an exciting team this season with young talent.
Louisville
Jones spent four seasons at Louisville and averaged just 4.5 points per game as a freshman. She averaged 8.9 and 7.6 points per game the next two years before breaking out in her senior year. As a senior, Jones raised her points per game up to 14.1 points. Jones also shot a career-high 53% from the field and 37% from three.
The Louisville player attempted a career-high 45 three’s as senior after shooting 38 total three’s in her first three years. Jones also averaged 5.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. In her final year at Louisville, Jones made All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Defensive Team.
Jones will bring high energy to the floor for the Liberty. She is an impressive defensive player who could be able to defend multiple positions. Jones would be to defend the one through three positions and maybe even sometimes the four.
What Jazmine Jones Could Bring To New York
With Jones improving her offensive game, it could pay off for New York. She will need to keep improving her shot to be even more effective on the WNBA level. I think Jones could develop into an outstanding three and D player. Jones can also put the ball on the floor and get to the basket. The one thing Jones will bring to New York is a relentless motor on both ends of the court.
The Liberty also drafted Sabrina Ionescu with the pick of the WNBA Draft. Playing with Ionescu all Jones will have to do on offense is a move without the ball, and Ionescu will find the open person. New York probably will run an uptempo offense, and Jones could be a dangerous site for opposing teams as a wing player.
