You read the title, and you may think “he’s just a Mets homer”. Well I’m here to burst that bubble. I am a diehard Yankees fan who loves laughing at the little brother Mets and their misfortunes. Luis Castillo is my favorite Met of all time and it’s not even close. In their lifetime the Mets have been myred in failure and sad stories, but here’s one they can get behind: David Allen Wright of the New York Mets is a Hall of Famer, and it’s not even close.

David Wright Being An Elite 3B Makes Him a Hall of Famer

I have no idea how this hasn’t already been considered to be fact but how is David Wright not an elite 3B all time? Among HOF 3B David Wright ranks 6th in wRC+ with a 133, 5th in fWAR/150 (FanGraphs’ Wins Above Replacement Per 150 Games), tied for 5th in OBP, 5th in SLG, and 8th in wOBA. That was out of 17 3B by the way, so he’s in quite a bit of company. He’s not only elite compared to his peers, but his peak was incredible. He had a 138 wRC+, .384 OBP, .382 wOBA, and 5.3 fWAR/150 from 2005-2013, so why do people overlook him?

Why The Injury Argument is Redundant

There are already three 3B with less games played than Wright in the HOF, and many many more non 3B with less games played than Wright in their career. He definitely would have been better minus the injuries but they definitely didn’t slow him down enough to prevent him from being a HOFer.

Comparing the Kings of New York

This might be sacrilege to my fandom but I’m going to give you a table of two players and look at the results and try to determine which player truly was better

StatwRC+wOBAOBPfWAR/150UZR/150DRS
Player A133.373.3764.9-2.5-24
Player B119.360.3774.0-6.2-162
Derek Jeter and David Wright were the faces of New York in their prime (Ron Antonelli/New York Daily News)

Well this wasn’t particularly close was it? And yes, Player A was David Wright and Player B was Derek Jeter. Would I say David Wright was better in his prime? Yes. Would I say I’d take Wright’s career over Jeter’s? No, but only because Jeter had longevity, but you see how great David Wright was? He’s one of the best players of our generation and is a HOFer, if you don’t think he is then you just are objectively speaking not correct.

So let’s (W)right this wrong narrative and make David Wright a Hall of Famer when the time comes.
