Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale confirmed to the media that he is keen on first-team football and willing to move but his Spanish club is making his potential transfer difficult for him.
The falling out between Bale and the Spanish giants has been going on for years, and it seems the rift won’t be mended anytime soon, as the Welshman dropped down the pecking order in head coach Zinedine Zidane’s team. Real Madrid were reported to be unwilling to let the winger part ways with them due to his high wages and the length remaining on his current contract.
Summer last year, it was believed the Wales International will finally be parting ways with the Spanish club after agreeing on a transfer deal for a potential move to China. This deal failed to go through after the Los Blancos called the deal off at the last minute to retain their hold on the Welshman.
While being interviewed by Sky Sports, the Welsh winger confirmed that other offers have been coming in ever since after clearly expressing his disappointment at Madrid’s decision to hold him at the club last summer.
Speaking to the media, he said: “I tried to leave last year but they [Real Madrid] blocked everything at the last second.
“It was a project I was excited for last year but it didn’t materialize. And there have been other instances but the club won’t allow it or something, so it’s up to the club.”
Over the years, the 31-year-old winger had been linked with a move to the Premier League, and he is still being linked this summer transfer window, with Nevada sports betting banking on him to be sold eventually. He has only been able to register up to 33 La Liga games in his last two campaigns with the club. He confirmed that the Spanish club are making it difficult for him to leave the club, Bale also talked about a possible return to the English Top Flight if he is given that opportunity.
He continued: “I want to play football. I’m still motivated to play football. I’m 31 but I’m in great shape still and I feel I’ve got a lot to give.”
“We’ll see what happens. It’s in the club’s hands and they make things very difficult, to be honest.”
“It’s not really in my hands. If those options [a move to the Premier League] arise, it’s something I’d look at for sure. We’ll see what happens; we have plenty of time in this transfer window and a couple of others as well. Time will tell but mainly I think the reason is that the decision is in Real Madrid’s hands.”
Last summer, Real Madrid was reported to have turned down an offer worth £89 million for the Welshman from a Premier League club with former president Ramon Calderon confirming this report.
The Wales International currently has two more years left on his contract with the Los Blancos.
Bale is currently on international duty with the Welsh National team as they train to battle against Finland and Bulgaria in the Group H of the Nations League tournament.
