To tell the truth, the 2020 MLB trade deadline was more eventful than expected. Many believed that due to the short season and expended playoff bracket that teams would not want to make any big moves. Here are some deals that may make a big impact on the rest of the season and even the playoffs.

Deadline Deals

San Diego is taking their shot at the playoffs with some big trade deadline deals. Two of their biggest moves were to trade for Mike Clevinger and Mitch Moreland. Clevinger is a nice pick up from the Indians to help solidify the rotation going into the final weeks of the season. Moreland will be a big bat in the already potent Padres line up.

The Mariners and Red Sox will be happy to take some of those young players that the Padres have. Though the Indians probably should have asked for more in return with the Clevinger trade. After all, he is considered a top of the line pitcher in the American League that should have gotten the Indians a few more players.

There are some other trades that could have an impact on the team’s playoff push. The Blue Jays acquired starting pitcher Robbie Ray from the Diamondbacks. Ray is considered one of the better pitchers in the National League and will help the Blue Jays rotation. They are making a playoff push and needed a good veteran pitcher.

Small Market

Furthermore, there were some other smaller trades that can impact a team’s playoff races. Colorado Rockies made a trade for relief pitcher Mychal Givens to pitch the late innings. The acquisition of Kevin Pillar from the Red Sox helps the defense and strengthen the Rockies lineup. He is already making an impact in his first game with the Rockies. Where he had a big two-RBI hit and home run-saving catch in centerfield.

The Cincinnati Reds are trying to get back in the Wild Card picture made a nice trade for reliever Archie Bradley. Bradley has 18 saves and a .352 ERA. Another nice trade is the Mets trading for Todd Frazier. Frazier is a good defender who can add to the Mets lineup.

The MLB trade deadline was busier than expected and brought some interesting trades that could affect the playoff races. The deals showed who is serious this year and who is getting for next year.
