God damn is the best way for me to start this because I don’t know what the hell was I watching last night. After Patrick Williams got taken with the 4th pick. The draft was in shambles. There were some players drafted WAY TOO HIGH like Jalen Smith and Isiah Stewart and there were people that were slipping in the draft that shouldn’t have like Tyrese Haliburton and Precious Achiuwa.

Then there are teams who make dumbass decisions, and then there’s the Knicks. They are in their own league. No Knicks rookie has received a second contract by the Knicks since they gave it to a guy whose best sport (statistically) WASN’T basketball (Charlie Ward). There have been some good ones that deserved a second deal like David Lee and Kristaps Porzingis. It still seems the Knicks are paying for those decisions.

About Last Night’s Knicks Draft…

So with the eighth overall pick, the Knicks selected… another forward as if the team doesn’t have enough of those kinds of players. The reasoning behind it makes sense. The Knicks have no spacing and offense for that matter. He was the best player available. Mitchell Robinson hasn’t shown any signs of life on the offensive end… at all. So why not? Obi Toppin has a solid game but I am not really sold on his ceiling, I don’t see an all-star in him. I see an NBA starter but not a franchise player. Dayton didn’t really play anyone besides Kansas. I mean he outplayed Anthony Edwards once but that’s about it.

They should have drafted a guard, no one outside of the Tristate area knows anyone that plays point guard for the Knicks. It didn’t matter who they selected but someone that could dribble and shoot the ball would have been helpful. For the team, it wasn’t the worst move of the first round. NBC, CBS, ESPN, AARP, or KFC for damn sure did not have Immanuel Quickley anywhere near the first round of the draft. I’m going to be honest I had to google him.

I get Quickley can shoot the three ball, but SO CAN EVERYONE ELSE. I would have congratulated them if this was 1996.

How some Knicks fans felt after seeing this draft.

Those Knicks of Mine…

Then to top off the night. Thinking that the 25th pick in the draft was bad enough. They did something that did not make sense. They drafted Daniel Oturu, who quietly averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds a game last season against better competition (compared to Toppin). I went to bed that night thinking that would be it. Haven’t heard much about Oturu until I saw his highlights and he looked pretty good on tape and was looking forward to a big man actually shooting past 15 feet.

Today I wake up and notice that he is now on the Clippers. A 20 and 10 guy to the Clippers for a second-round pick who can play both ends of the floor. I am not entirely in love with this class if you have not noticed already. The concern for how long they will actually be on the team is very high. Due to their ceiling and the organization that they are playing for. Let’s be hopeful that it all works out.
