Last night’s Browns versus Ravens game was easily one of the best games of the season. Between a record number of rushing touchdowns, a game-ending safety, and Lamar Jackson‘s triumphant return from a mysterious ailment, this edition of Monday Night Football had it all.

Most fans didn’t notice one moment it featured: a spitting incident.

At the end of the first quarter, one observant fan who goes by the Twitter name “Obese Turtle”, noticed star cornerback Marcus Peters appear to eject something out of his mouth at the bottom of his screen. It’s very obvious that Peters tried spitting on Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry. Watch closely:

The Footage

It’s tough to actually determine whether Peters’ hunk of saliva actually makes contact with Landry, but it’s certainly close. In any other year, spitting on your competitor is deemed one of the dirtiest and most disrespectful moves an athlete can pull. During a pandemic, however, this is especially taboo.

No, it may not be at the level of vomiting on another player. Though, given that it looks likely Peters’ spit landed on Landry’s uniform, it should be taken seriously as a COVID risk. Not to mention… it’s just gross.

Many fans are already calling for a suspension to be ordered for Peters. Since it wasn’t noticed by referees in-game (or by Landry himself), it’s unlikely that the NFL will hand out a punishment based on a grainy Twitter video.

If the video gains more traction and gets media attention, though, perhaps more angles will come out from the league’s sideline cameras and the NFL will have to take notice. God bless today’s technology.

If Peters gets suspended, it will not be the first time. He’s been suspended in December on a team fighting for an AFC wildcard spot because he launched a projectile in a frustrated manner. You’ve got to calm down, Marcus.
