As much as I love Steve Nash, I’m wondering if his curse still haunts him to this day. What’s this Nash curse you say? Nash never made it to the mountain-top. Nash never won a title, let alone play in a title series. Despite having a super team this year, Coach Nash might still not make it to the Finals.

The Steve Nash Curse

PHOENIX, AZ - JANUARY 07: Steve Nash #13 of the Phoenix Suns handles the ball during the NBA game against the New York Knicks at US Airways Center on January 7, 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona. The Knicks defeated the Suns 121-96. NOTE TO USER: User expressly

As stated above, the Nash Curse is the unfortunate fact that Steve Nash never made it to the NBA Finals despite being a top-30 player of all time. Nash made it to the conference finals before but usually bowed out in the first or second rounds. The Nets’ coach often faced injury in these times, or just couldn’t clutch as many sports historians would say. Now, we can’t help but wonder if the curse continues this year.

Nash and the Nets

Here we are, another mid-round playoff exit on the cards for Steve Nash. James Harden went down at the beginning of the Milwaukee vs Brooklyn series followed by an ankle injury by Kyrie in game four. Injuries plagued the Nets’ roster just like with Phoenix in the mid-2000s.

But there’s hope. When Kyrie went down in game four, the Nets looked distraught and the Bucks tied the series 2-2. Last night, in order to tie the series, Kevin Durant knew he had to play the game of his life. Yes, Harden played, but he had no impact on the game for the most part. Durant threw the team on his back and singlehandedly won game five for Brooklyn. This game was so huge for Brooklyn and Nash that it led to what some may call the most iconic hug in all of basketball.

I hope Nash finally wins a title. Or the Suns. Wouldn’t it be so ironic if the Suns beat the Nets in the finals?
