The new era in New Orleans arrives as Jameis Winston slings five touchdowns against the Packers in his debut as quarterback of the Saints. Was this a fluke or the real Winston?

Jameis Winston throws 5 TDs as Saints embarrass Aaron Rodgers, Packers. It couldn't have gone much better for new Saints starting QB Jameis Winston — and it couldn't have gone much worse for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers' offense.

Winston vs the Packers

Yesterday’s match-up between the Saints and the Packers was an absolute beatdown. The Saints won 38-3, and Winston tossed five touchdowns and no turnovers. If I told you that one of the quarterbacks threw five touchdowns and the other threw two interceptions, would you have believed that Rodgers was the one to throw two picks?

Winston’s stat line reads 14/20, 148 yards, and five touchdowns. Winston also had six rushes for 37 yards. Winston made smart decisions almost every time by electing to check the ball down or scramble when under pressure. Jameis did throw an interception, but it didn’t count because of a personal foul penalty.

Is this the Real Deal?

The question on everyone’s lips is whether or not Jameis Winston is the real deal? I’m leaning towards yes. I believe in Sean Payton as a coach and his ability to “fix” Winston. The talent has been there all along, but Payton can chisel it into a franchise star. Winston proved that he can make smart decisions, and it’s all starting to come together. Even Drew Brees recognized Winston’s talent in the Sunday Night Football pregame show while hilariously roasting himself.

I think New Orleans should have hope. The Saints will compete with Winston’s old team, Tampa Bay, for the division crown. Carolina continues their rebuild, and the Falcons might be a hot mess. Who’s to say? But, for now, let’s celebrate Winston and see how he does when the pressure is up. We can also expect to see more and more hilarious clips of him like this.
