Critics of current Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have had plenty to say about the team’s recent results. The seeming over-reliance on specific players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, David De Gea, and Bruno Fernandes is leading many to believe the future of United isn’t with Ole. Cue Zinedine Zidane.

Zidane Open to Manchester United Job

Zidane celebrates with the Champions League trophy.

Zinedine Zidane had legendary careers as both player and manager. As a manager, he will go down as one of the most successful coaches in the history of Real Madrid. However, he is not actively coaching at any clubs right now. After walking away from his position as head coach of Real Madrid this past summer, reports stated that the Frenchman was looking for some time off.

However, things have changed in recent months as his name is repeatedly popping up around Europe. There are multiple clubs trying to get his signature, but Manchester United is arguably the most linked to Zidane.

There could be some hope, as Fabrizio Romano has stated that Zidane is open to the job at United:

It’s sounding like Manchester United just has to make contact in order for this to go through.

Zidane – Ronaldo Reunion?

Reports have also emerged stating that Cristiano Ronaldo has recommended Zidane to the Manchester United board to replace Ole. The Portuguese forward was the main man of Zidane’s Real Madrid team and the duo led the club to incredible trophy hauls. A reunion in Manchester could prove fruitful for the club.

Either way, it’s time to make a change. Ole’s style of play is not working and Zidane is a proven winner. Arguments that he only won because he coached in Spain can be shot down by the number of Champions League titles he’s won. It wasn’t luck that brought the Frenchman this list of silverware in the span of only four years:

  • Three Champions League Titles
  • Two La Liga Titles
  • Two Spanish Super Cups
  • Two UEFA Super Cups
  • Two FIFA Club World Cups

He knows how to win and the caliber of players on the United roster is world-class. Plus, reuniting Ronaldo and Zizou could be exactly what the team needs right now.

The Last Straw for Ole

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after losing 0-5 to Liverpool.

Sunday proved to be the last straw for many United fans around the globe. A humiliating 0-5 defeat to rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford demonstrated that Ole may have taken the club as far as he’s able. A new boss is needed desperately, for unless Ole sparks some historic change of form soon, this could be another trophy-less season with him at the reigns. Zidane could be the answer.

Think about it, United, and let us know. The time of “Ole’s at the wheel” is coming to a close.

I am a passionate Real Madrid fan however, so to Barcelona fans: it's just something we'll have to work around. :)

Great read! Totally agree and it seems like a no brainer. Problem is, management lack brains. Hopefully they can get someone who is a good fit and can be successful at United.
