Jaguars versus Bills

The Jacksonville Jaguars got a surprising win against the Buffalo Bills by a score of 9-6. The result of this contest was just one of the many upsets that happened in the NFL this Sunday. This was the Jaguars’ second win of the season. The game was anything but pretty though. Neither team was able to score a single touchdown. Bills quarterback Josh Allen was a turnover machine yesterday. He had a total of three turnovers in the matchup. He threw 2 INT and added a fumble as well. One of each went to the other Josh Allen on the field of the Jaguars.

Buffalo could not get the ground game going either. The Bill put up a mundane 72 YDS in that phase. The Jaguars defense did an excellent job of shutting down one of the highest-powered offenses in the entire league. There was no doubt in anyone’s mind that Jacksonville was the better team on the field that day.

Did the Jaguars Win or the Bills Beat Themselves?

The question of what happened comes up when an upset happens at any level of a sport. Did the team that won beat the other because they were the better squad that day? Or did the losing club decide to look past the game assuming they would win it? Let us examine what the Jaguars did in this matchup.

Jaguars’ rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw for just 118 YDS but avoided a common mistake. He did not turn the ball over like most young players at the position do. Jacksonville had just one fumble so they won the turnover ratio. The team that wins that one has a better chance at victory in most cases.

Now I say this with no disrespect towards the Jaguars or their fanbase. Jacksonville did not beat Buffalo. The Bills decided to metaphorically stay home. They did not bring their A or even B game. The best grade you can give Buffalo for that performance was a D. That is if you are an extremely lenient teacher. The Bills should take this pitiful result and use it as a reminder. Players are getting paid to play this game and do not make as much money when performing at a subpar level. No NFL team, regardless of their record, will just let you walk all over them to get an easy win.
